It's big money, to be fair.
Re: Quigg Vs Frampton £1.5million
Cyclone Promotions have already issued a statement, this could get interesting over the next few weeks.

It is big money and you do have to wonder if itv could compete with that. Would they be able to generate significant advertising revenue & sponsorship to enable them to compete with it? Genuine question as i haven't a clue on how much they would charge for a peak time advert/ring sponsor etc.

Re: Quigg Vs Frampton £1.5million
Money is only half the thing. What about options ? Frampton is doing his own thing, so is quigg. I would love to know if this offer comes as a one off or if Eddie attaches options in the case of Carl winning, ie he then fights for matchroom. It's always the ££££££ that gets the attention but the issue of options is crucial.
Re: Quigg Vs Frampton £1.5million
Hearn does seem to like the odd underhand tactic, he also knows fine well that nearly everyone will see his publicity stunt on sky sports and only a small minority of people will likely see Cyclone's press release. I was sent a picture of Hearn with the cheque from a mate who isn't even a boxing fan, the stunt has already got peoples attention as he took a picture of his tv to send me it thinking that it was the biggest news in boxing history.
I can see both sides to this as I'm sure others can, £1.5 million is an unbelievable pay day for anyone. Personally I think Quigg will never be anywhere near that kind of purse again without Carl but I also believe that Frampton could go on to make many big pay days in the future which is why McGuigan is keen to get him the exposure of ITV. If negotiations fall through then Matchroom will be saying "we publicly offered big money" etc etc although it is much more complicated than that at this stage of their careers.
I think Frampton can make big bucks without Quigg (although not £1.5m per fight), I'm not so sure about the other way round.....
Just get it signed and get it on.

Publicity stunt to try and get public pressure on Frampton and his team to give up all.
Eddie Hearn at his slimeball Essex best.

Give up all? its a 1 and a half million offer??? if Frampton is confident (which he should be in my opinion) go for it!!ste1983 wrote:Publicity stunt to try and get public pressure on Frampton and his team to give up all.

The offer is there, take it and go for it!! you can talk all you want but surely this is a good offer and a great fight for everyone?
Re: Quigg Vs Frampton £1.5million
£1.5 million to go to Manchester, on Sky, with Hearn as the sole promoter. Why should they give up everything when Frampton brings the title and the money?Crazyboy wrote:Give up all? its a 1 and a half million offer??? if Frampton is confident (which he should be in my opinion) go for it!!ste1983 wrote:Publicity stunt to try and get public pressure on Frampton and his team to give up all.

Its a very good offer I agree but comes with no concessions at all i.e on a Matchroom only show (Cyclone have offered a co-promotion) on Sky and in Manchester.Crazyboy wrote:Give up all? its a 1 and a half million offer??? if Frampton is confident (which he should be in my opinion) go for it!!ste1983 wrote:Publicity stunt to try and get public pressure on Frampton and his team to give up all.

What would beating Quigg on primetime ITV do for Framptons career?
Fact is Cyclone were looking at sitting down and negotiating properly (even offering concessions such as a co-promotion, despite Carl being the real draw and genuine champion) but Hearn has to go and play one of his publicity stunts with the aim of whitewashing Frampton into fighting on his terms. Knowing full well the majority of general public will fall for it (because one theyre thick and two he has the biggest mouthpeice...Sky)

Re: Quigg Vs Frampton £1.5million
Surely the promoters job is to make the fighters as much money as possible?
Like him or not, Hearn is backed by Sky - they have the money, the hype and the well-known fighters to fill a (presumably PPV) undercard.
From a boxing point of view, Frampton is the main man, but from a promotional point of view, Sky/Matchroom is where the money is.

I should look at the reality that boxing is a business at the end of the day.

I that really the promoters job? Is it all about the money or is it about a combination of money, glory, legacy and success?the_doctor wrote:Surely the promoters job is to make the fighters as much money as possible?

That's an honest question. For example if someone is turning down X money to fight for 90% of X and to fight on their terms, with millions watching, should the promoter look to get the extra money or the extra attention?
Re: Quigg Vs Frampton £1.5million
Agree but Barry is his own man. He will do what is best for Carl & himslef long term, not get in bed with Hearn for the biggest money (ie options etc).freddydoesdallas wrote:Is it the promoters job to make his fighter the most money in the short term or long term?the_doctor wrote:Surely the promoters job is to make the fighters as much money as possible?

Re: Quigg Vs Frampton £1.5million
Presumably both. There isn't a bigger payday out there currently for either fighter, that's why it should happen and it should be promoted by whoever puts the most money in the fighters pockets. Long-term, the biggest risk is the fight not taking place. Whether it happens on ITV, C5 or Sky, both will benefit financially (in the short term) and exposure-wise (in the long term).freddydoesdallas wrote:Is it the promoters job to make his fighter the most money in the short term or long term?the_doctor wrote:Surely the promoters job is to make the fighters as much money as possible?

Really though, if ITV could put together a package that was worth 90% of the £1.5m he's been offered, then that's probably fair enough but can anyone see that happening?
A boxer's best money-making years could be over in a heartbeat, I wouldn't blame any of them for taking the biggest purse available at any one time, regardless of who, where and when you are fighting.

Getting in a bit bored with hearns 'going public - rabble rousing' tactics (brook-Khan now this)!
To me it comes across far too bullish and in turn makes matchroom appear fairly desperate!

Re: Quigg Vs Frampton £1.5million
Possibly not but if they are that confident in Frampton beating Quigg then maybe they are happy to take a lesser purse for this one knowing that the hype and fight for this on ITV will turn Frampton into the biggest star in British boxing since Hatton and then there is serious coin to be made.the_doctor wrote:Presumably both. Obviously, in this one-off scenario he could make a mint but longer term he will be a famous fella in N.Ireland but not a household name in the UK as a whole. If it was on ITV, my gran would be talking to me about the fight and how nice a fella he is
Re: Quigg Vs Frampton £1.5million
No way will Hearn agree to this being on ITV hence the sizeable offer to Frampton. If he gets his way it'll be a PPV! I personally think Carl will stop Quigg inside 6 rounds. If what's being reported is true then it's a hell of a pay day for Frampton! Sets him up for life. With a young family he would need to seriously consider that kinda cash!

Re: Quigg Vs Frampton £1.5million
This is a Pay Per View fight IMO and I would happily give £14.95. Bellew and Clev definitely wasn't.
I understand all the arguments about Hearn and options etc, but that is some serious wedge for Carl and he should definitely take it. The McGuigan's need to look after their fighter first and foremost, and this sets Carl up for life.
I think the public nature of the offer and all that leaves a bad taste, but Eddie is a businessman and you can't blame him for leveraging the tools he has at his disposal.
Great fight, great purse, potentially great event. Get it on.

But nah in all seriousness, this match up is No1 in my wish list, pisses all over Mayweather-Pacquiao,this fight will be action packed with 2 guys who are primed and ready to stake their claim as the best,
Or they can wait 6 years when they have no other avenues to explore and take our money
