I don't believe any boxer talking about retirement by such & such a time just based off of past results. Its a winning proposition to bet the over on any fighters proposed retirement date. Having said that if making $400M+ or whatever he'll have made in his last 6 fights with this Showtime deal doesn't keep one outta the ring I got no idea what would.

If he wins he will be big. And fights one more time billed as his last fight. It will be against an easy opponent.

He'll be beaten into retirement on May 02, 2015. In the man's own words, his long term health is more important, and there's certainly no shame in getting your ass whooped by Manny Pacquiao.

The judges award Pac a controversial decision.. and we end up seeing a trilogy, with #2 or #3 being billed as the second Thrilla in Manila... or maybe the Pow in Macau.

No?

Well I don't really know, but in my humble estimation according to all the dumb PacTURDS all he needs to do is beat one guy (their main man Manny) and he could've retired as TBE based on that one win!!

The may as well call Marquez TBE because he pancaked Manny's face into the canvas permanently, dude had to get plastic reconstructive surgery and be cloned in order for us to even believe he's Pacquiao and he's back and the only reason we believe it is because he came back into doing what he does best:

Fighting blown up WWs who don't have real punching power or fighters who come straight ahead.

BTW, this is a post of love for Manny's fans here.

I think another thread is coming, or at least the retread of an older one.

Let's assume Floyd stops Pac for the sake of this argument.

Does that mean, when ranking the best of this era, that Floyd gets #1, followed by JMM instead of Pac?

After all, Marquez will have gotten the better head to head AND done better against the best common opponent.

Ofcourse it will. How the F does Floyd beat Pacquiao, a guy who's barely lost a round since his first fight in the US against Ledwaba. Floyd in the news today says he "doesn't really enjoy it anymore", he's lost his motivation. After May 2 the only fights Floyd will be in will be against the ex-girlfriends he puts beatings on. Even then I bet he pot-shots and shoulder rolls to avoid any cat scratches

I get you don't admire Floyd but Manny dropped a few rounds to Morales and Marquez, surely?

He will of matched Marciano, if he does. And really, what worlds is there to really conquer after Pacquiao? Middleweight? Though I'd love to see Mayweather rematch Cotto @ 160 and do such a thing, there's no point to it.

Sure, but from the Ledwaba fight onwards, count the rounds won vs rounds lost then tell me a fighter that's been as dominant as that. Vitali Klitchko springs to mind.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. told the media in December 2013 that he was intending to hang-up his gloves and retire from the ring for good when he has fulfilled his Showtime contract.

None of this is news!
Yeah, except this is a guy that has unretired at least twice.

So yeah, him reiterating things yesterday was newsworthy.

I don't see how he doesn't have the crowing 50th fight if he beats Pac for his 48th, no contract to a network so he can wrangle a fortune for it. A Cotto rematch at 160 would be a perfect fight, providing Cotto is still champ. I just don't see how it doesn't happen.

I see Cotto as the last Showtime fight.

The 50th will be a real life "Rocky vs Apollo" type thing, Floyd picking a safe, safe fight.

Oh, for sure he's been a fantastically dominant fighter and damn exciting with it, you have to give Floyd some consideration too, he's been equally dominant though not as exciting.

Floyd doesn't dominate like Pac does. Alot of the time floyds done just enough to get the w. Cotto for instance, found another gear in the championship rnds to win on my card from being 5-5 in rounds.

What fight were you watching?

All three judges gave Floyd the last 4 rounds.

And he hurt Miguel bad in the very last round, started to get him out of there but Cotto went very defensive.

He might have to fight over his contract in order to reach 49 wins.
