I got a letter through today saying that my subscription is goin up by £4.50 per month.

Utter fcukin joke. They've upped the family pack by £3 per month. Sports by £1 and movies by 50p.

They're obviously recouping the money paid to the premiership by sticking the prices up on everything. They can ram it the robbing bastarts. Anyone else peeved etc?

never been a better time to negotiate a deal with them on the plus side, they really don't want to be losing customers with that premier league bill to pay. If you're a football fan I suppose you should be glad they're rather unfairly spreading the cost out amongst all their customers...£3 on family and only £1 on sport is borderline dishonest...we know why ya need the fornicating money!

Said it before though, there is no reason for anybody to be paying over £50 a month for the full service, put your cancellation notice in and sit tight till you get an offer you're happy with.

I cancelled my sky last September and in January this year they phoned me up out of the blue and asked me if i wanted it back and i said no,they then said they would give me the channels half price for ten months,again i said no,the chap on the other end of the line was clearly on a mission as he then offered me half price for ten months and they credited my sky account with £100,that has just run out so i have cancelled again,the chap on the phone that day in January was very,very persistant,it was like having a double glazing rep at your front door,he just would not give up.

I had the same, the "lady" who took my cancellation call was an absolute douche and wasn't listening to a word I said. They hounded me for weeks to the point where I blocked their number.

Then they were chasing me for money I owed, despite not cancelling the DD so I actually ended up overpaying.

Now they're writing to me, asking me to phone them so I can claim my rebate...yeah right, just send a cheque like any normal person would?

I made this point in the Brook-Gavin PPV thread as I'd already heard the prices were going off - Sky is such a rip-off for those who subscribe solely for the boxing (which I imagine is quite a few on here). It's another reason why PPV is a disgrace for anything other than the huge fights that can't be made without it.

There is only one way to stop PPV and that's to bite the bullet and not pay,easier said than done i know especially as the fight gets nearer.I never thought in a million years Frankie Gavin would headline a PPV but if people pay then it will continue i'm afraid.

I cancelled a couple of years ago, but I know when we first wanted to cancel they let us have it for free for three months. Just phone and say you think it's too expensive blah blah, that call will save you at least a couple oh hundred quid.

They're are robbing fuckin bastards, and absolute cancer, putting the puppet strings on Hearn and making the likes of Clev vs Bellew PPV on top of the subscription i already paid was the final straw.

Can you imagine they made games like Southampon vs Swansea free then charged for Man U vs Chelsea on Box Office, then crept into charging PPV for all premiership games only showing Championship games free? Football fans would be up in arms and cancel in droves.

They get away with doing it to boxing fans though cause it's a smaller market, they buff up boxing PPV's like Clev/Bellew and put them on Saturday nights after big football games cause they know people get pished through the day then don't mind paying £16 to watch a hype-up scrap even though they don't even know who someone like Frankie Gavin is.

Sky stink the fuckin joint out, they'll never get another penny out of me and would urge everyone else to do the same, it's 1 thing paying for a good service, it's another havign the piss ripped out of you at every turn to fund obscene wages, transfer fees and TV deals.

It's always worth a go,i got to the point where i wouldn't have it no matter how much they dropped the price,just goes to show much we were getting ripped off if they can offer all sorts of individual deals depending who you speak to.

Speaking to those that deal with cancellations is always the way to go if you are looking for a reduction in what you are paying. We got six months half price Sky by doing this, done ith with phone contracts too. Had it the other day on RatedPeople as well, although I didn't take it as they are double shite!

It's the only way to be these days. They over charge because people are lazy and comfortable. Same with phones, banks and any other contract shite.

Worth a crack. The thing is this isn't even a secret, it's a widely known retention tactic by SKY. There's tons of forums on the internet with threads dedicated on how to play the SKY retention game. The 3 key points are:

1. Do not to threaten that your going to someone else for TV i.e. Virgin Media
2. Blow a little smoke up their behind "I think the service from SKY is great, and I would love to stay, but it's getting too expensive"
3. Give them the required 30 days notice that you are cancelling, and let your services be cancelled.

During your 30 day cancellation period SKY's retention team will call you 2 or 3 times offering 25% then around 35% off to stay. If however you tough it out, and let your services get cancelled, within the next 5 days you'll receive a letter, e-mail or promo offer on your SKY account to come back with 50% off. If your really lucky you might get the most prized offer, 75% off for 12 months!

If you don't mind not having SKY TV for a few days, and your out of contract term, it's worth a punt. One thing I would say though is don't cancel your broadband with them. If you cancel your broadband and line rental, when fishing for this deal, it can take up to 2 weeks for your broadband to be reactivated and you'll get a new home phone number. I made this mistake first time around. Not to worry though, they want to tie you down to a new 12 month contract for everything. They'll give you 50% off your TV, throw the broadband in for free, but line rental will still be full price.

As someone posted above, loyalty with the likes of SKY and Virgin Media get you nowhere. It also highlights how much people are being ripped off. If SKY are still making a profit of me, and those who are lucky to get 75% off, just how low can they go?

40% off is currently on offer for new customers, with a £100 credit to your account. That's enough to cover your first few months subscription, depending on what package you choose. Free SKY TV, who'd have thought it

I cancelled in March last year and only rejoined last month.

The truth is that I didn't really miss Sky's content and wasn't bothered about missing a handful of Matchroom cards.

For the year I didn't have Sky, they hounded me constantly with letters, emails and phone calls.

In the end I agreed to rejoin because they offered me a deal that is free for four months and then £25.50 until January 2015 with full HD and no contract. I later had a phone call telling me they couldn't do HD without a contract, but I complained (because that was their offer) and they eventually agreed with me.

I'll still be cancelling in January though.

Coincidentally there was an article in today's Telegraph about the obstacles Sky put up to try to stop people cancelling. This guy was trying to cancel via online chat for 90 mins, the retention agent just wouldn't take the hint. It's worth reading the full transcript for a laugh, the customer was a lot politer than I would have been, although he does get nicely pissed off towards the end:

The press release on SKY's website makes for impressive reading. Looks like people are happy to pay SKY high prices

It's just astroturfing.

They want the grass to look greener than it is, the reality is that the small hole in their market share created by Netflix, Amazon Prime, Kodi etc is about to burst wide open.

People in 2 or 3 years from now will say "Remember when we had a great big hulking box and a dish on the wall, and the channels showed you what they wanted, rather than stuff you could pick and choose on-demand?"

Image quality was always the concern with web TV but not now Netflix is hitting 1080p and 4k on some shows, whereas Sky is still doing the 1080i.

The real battle for BT was not to get the football fans, that was simply a carrot - they actually want your broadband custom, because everything is going that route now.

Sales of Amazon Fire TV boxes and Apple TV boxes have sky rocketed in the last 24 months. And the introduction of android operating systems coming into all major Smart TV's will see apps from everyone. Sky's now TV will just be one of the dozens of choices you will have - and the fact it is limited, slow and poor picture quality means nobody really bothers with it.

I can see Sky Sports eventually being a stand alone app, rather than being bundled into an expensive subscription model.

The amount of under 30's who have sky installed is very few indeed in comparison to previous decades. They have all migrated to netflix, tablets, ipads and TV streaming boxes that are cheaper, have better content and no long term cost commitment.

I've found this thread extremely useful. Mine's just gone up by £4 (I haven't got movies), which means I'm now paying £85 per month. When I joined it was £48 for the first year.

When the football season's finished I'll give this cancelling game a whirl. My other concern is that the Champions League moves exclusively to BT Sport from next season, so I'll probably buckle and fork out for that as well.

But I'm not paying any more PPV's for domestic cards. Unless it's on the level of MayPac, I'll manage without. They're taking the p!ss now. Eddie Hearn started out promisingly but now he's got a tight grip on it he's milking us all. I cancelled the other boxing channel a while back and I've survived.

This is a very useful thread, I have the full sky package and I've just called to cancel and been given a thirty quid a month cut in the monthly subs. I figured if i held out for more it would work but that'll do me - one phone call has given me quite a saving, and from a boxing perspective it pays for the PPV shows.

The advisors have scripts to work from, and clever people have already figured out the moans that joe public will cite as their reasons for wanting to cancel. Mine were the price Sky have paid for football, and the PPV boxing shows. The scripted response to the latter was along the lines of, well it would cost you more to go see the show in person than to have it beamed right into your living room in full HD. But thats like saying, hey if you stop subscribing to sky movies and go make your own blockbusters it'll cost you hundreds of millions and you cant afford it.

At the end of the process the advisor told me she was typing up notes of our conversation. I asked if anything happened to the notes, she said yes they get fed back up to management. I asked her to type in that I think Eddie Hearn and Matchroom boxing are ripping off boxing fans and turning them off Sky in general, by being too greedy. It got put down. Won't make an iota of difference but at least i've had my say and saved myself thirty quid a month.

I'm currently paying Sky £66 a month for TV, internet & phone. Have everything on the TV package except the Movies & BT Sport, although I do subscribe to B0xnati0n separately.

I'm locked in for another 18 months or so & will definitely be cancelling Sky completely once this deal expires - I only really watch Sky Atlantic & Sky Sports, but as I rarely watch the football these days I'm effectively paying almost £800 a year for Game of Thrones, Mad Men (which ends this year anyway) and the boxing coverage (which has been garbage for the last few years & will get even worse now PPV is being used for mediocre domestic scraps again).
