Why is Frankie Gavin written off by the majority of people v Kell Brook

Post by BOYOVERTHEHILL »

Ok....here goes
Frankie is in with a hell of a shot to beat Kell Brook in my honest opinion.
Frankie has a solid chin...awkward style ....very good defensively....and underrated power.
His boxing at times can be beautiful and yes admittedly it can also be very negative and quite boring.
The main reasons I think he has a shot at beating Kell is his quite simple....He has far superior boxing skills and I think he will make Kell look silly at times.
I don't understand all the Kell is massive for the weight stuff and even if he is he hardly bangs like kovalev does he?
Would Kell have dealt with Bundu much better?....I'm not sure...especially after his life or death struggle with Carson Jones and he didn't exactly light up Shawn Porter did he?
I've got a major feeling a lot of people are going to get one hell of a shock!?

What has Frankie done professionally to suggest he's on Brook's level (i.e. the level of someone who clearly beat a world-class opponent and largely breezed through EBU types)? He struggled with Skeete and lost that fight on many cards, he did lose to Bundu--who then couldn't win a round against Thurman, and he's looked lackluster several other times, while Brook had major problems only once and of course thrashed Jones in the return. Brook isn't just stronger and harder punching, he's a good boxer himself who has shown excellent timing, a good sense of distance, impressive accuracy, and fairly quick hands.

This isn't the amateurs you know, and as a pro Frankie hasn't distinguished himself from the Jo Jo Dans of the world. He doesn't have a puncher's chance and I struggle to see how he outboxes Brook over the distance.

I think Kell would struggle with Bundu and Skeete.
Why is he stronger and harder hitting?
He's a bit upright...robotic....has a tendency to go head hunting and neglects the body.
Ask Denton Vassell about Frankies power....Gavin was superb that night.
If Gavin turns up wanting it then I stand by my opinion that Kell could be in a world of poo.

If Kell was all that then how do you explain the choice of opponent In Frankie Gavin?
The Welterweight division is littered with talent.....world class talent.....
Eddie would have had zero problems getting over a top class fighter ie Brandon Rios who publicly begged for the fight.....
But no.....They go pick Frankie Gavin who Kell will easily defend against......
I'm telling you now they have picked a fighter who is Kells worse nightmare....The style match up is all wrong.
The quality is there in Frankie and it will finally show on May 30th

Look at the evidence. Brook has stopped 15 of his last 19, dropped Hatton, and hurt Jones multiple times in the first half of their initial fight before stopping him in the rematch. He also stopped solid EBU-level fighters like Senchenko, Dan, and Jackiewicz, blowing away the first two. At British level, where Frankie has consistently won decisions, Brook was consistently stopping opponents early, and considering all this Brook has clearly shown me that his punches are more damaging than Frankie's. While physical strength may be harder to document I think Brook's shown that he's not easy to push around, which Frankie seemed to be against Bundu.

And what about Vassell? He took plenty of shots and never went down or showed signs of being seriously buzzed against Frankie, but the same cant be said of his experiences with Eggington or Plotnykov.

Look at Rios's recent purses and consider that he was making those in the U.S. as an A-side...suggesting to me that he'd probably want more to come to the UK as an opponent. Even if that's not the case paying him close to his standard purse will be quite costly, so while I think the fight is doable and may happen in the next year or so I doubt it will be easy to make from a financial standpoint.

Brook fighting only two months after his last bout suggests to me that he and his team are very confident of victory. If they thought Frankie was a serious threat I suspect they'd want significantly more preparation time.

It's a massive step up for frankie. He lost to bundu and struggled v skeete.

Kell didn't set the world alight v porter but I had him winning the fight. I'm not sure many fighters will be porter and look good. He has a horrible style plus his size makes it awkward.

Kell must be supremely confident that frankie won't pose to many dangers. But what better way to get into the big fights. Clear up what is left in britian(khan prefers to think of himself as a us fighter) and head across the pond to start winning in big fights.

Kell certainly has an interesting year ahead

I think his is a better fight than most. Gavin is a good boxer, if Kell doesn't keep his eye on the ball Gavin is a potential banana skin.

I agree; I can't see what Gavin does that would seriously trouble Brook. Perhaps he can fight negatively and frustrate Brook at times by not offering a lot, but I don't think he'll do much more than that.

Gavin won his world amateur title and has all the fundamentals but to say he is a better boxer than Brook is laughable! Brook is bigger, hits harder, moves better and all that will show on May 30th. Brook by KO mid to late rounds.

I agree and i say this as a fan of Gavin. I really wanted him to bring the big fights back to the Midlands but can't see it ever happening at welter

Gavin has not been a shining star by any means , and on paper , it should be an easy fight for Brooks , and after all thats why they picked it .

But Kell is no where near has good has a lot think , and that shows in the fact they picked Gavin .. It could be like the Pacman - Mayweather fight , a real good one , OR a fizzler ,, we won't know until the night

Answer to the question is that Gavin is at least two leagues below Kell Brook

he will not win a round in this fight

Gavin will get stopped in the mid to late rounds having done approximately nothing to trouble Kell for the duration of the fight.

Eddie has kinda said that the Rios fight would need a standalone ppv. That for me would bomb on ppv,

If they had put this fight on ss1, thr rios fight would have had a real chance of being successful

Lose your most important fight and then sign for Matchroom and you're in the main event for a World Title on a PPV card, so quite easy to write off

well, I doubted you when you called the Etches fight but you called it bang on so its hard to go against you.

I just think in this case Brook will have too much for Gavin and I think Brook will win handily.

If you get this one right however, I will actually start betting on anything you say :TU:

I see this match up a bit like Naz against Billy Hardy.

Brook will be far too mobile, explosive, strong, fast and powerful for Gavin who is barely european level and who doesnt have the punch or strength to impose himself on Brook.

Do both these fighters box for matchroom? I said I wouldn't bother with that lot after all of the froch groves tickets "went" in 15 minutes or something.
Who else is on this bill yet, anybody know?

I think it will be competetive for five rounds or so before brooks strength and power start to tell on frankie.

Kell brook stoppage in rounds 8-12 for me.
