Golovkin Vs Mayweather 154 Lb

Post by Aaronide_ger »

Mayweather holds 2 belts at the Junior Middleweight division. Golovkin has expressed his interest to move down to 154 to face ONLY him for a mega PPV bout.

So for all those who are already saying "Golovkin cant make 154, he is huge middleweight" let me show you some facts.

GGG has done three 30-day Weight ins for his last three Bouts

30 Days before the fight he was:
Against Rubio 165 Lb
Against Murray 172 Lb
Against Monroe 169 Lb

When Canelo Alvarez fought against Mayweather at a catchweight of 152 Lb he weighed in 166.8 Lb 30 days before the fight, and he went on to make weight. As you can see, GGG was 165 against Rubio 30 days before the fight, which makes us think that it would be rather easy for him to lose 11 lb in 30 days.

So who do you think will win this fight?

The Poll will be totally biased, most of the posters here Hate Floyd so there's no way that they will pick him even if they know in their heart of hearts that he'd be able to outskill/outclass and beat Golovkin.

As far as his weight he should focus on moving up which would be far easier than moving down and facing people who has actually called him out.

A full 172 lb fighter vs Floyd (who barely makes WW) and walks around at 150 should be the only fighter in boxing who has to fight a man 22lbs heavier than him is totally biased.

Even IF Floyd fought and beat GGG at 154, would he get full credit? Hell no. People would say he beat a weight drained version of GGG. Its really a damned if you do and damned if you don't kind of situation. Canelo was the same deal basically, only he only had to drop 2 pounds. Instead of everyone giving Floyd credit, the win was diminished because Canelo was "weight drained".

Simply put, the risk vs reward is why this fight will never happen. Floyd's normal weight is about 150 fight night. It would be like GGG fighting a light heavyweight. GGG even balks at the thought of moving up to 168 to fight Ward. Give it a rest - not happening.

Like when Sergio Martinez was champion at 160, I think Golovkin allows his name to stay in the sweepstakes for two reasons:
1. The very very small chance a fight can get made, but moreso:
2. Just to get his name out there, increase the extent to which he is being talked about generally.

It is smart for him to keep his name linked to Floyd's, to whatever small extent it is, to leech of his name and fame* in order to grow his own. You can imagine a conversation like this between a boxing fan and a casual sports fan:

"You're into boxing aren't you? That Mayweather sure is something, eh?"
"Uh, yeah..."
"You reckon anyone'll ever be able to beat him?"
"Gennady Golovkin maybe"
"Who?"
"He is a middleweight from Kazakhstan. Punches like an absolute motherfu..."
"Huh. But Floyd isn't a middleweight, is he?"
"He says he'll come down in weight to fight him. He's a real beast, man, can't be stopped. Fighting this weekend, actually. You should watch him."

And so it sometimes goes. And Golovkin's name gets brought up more and more in articles about Mayweather. It all helps.

In the few interviews I've watched with GGG, when he is asked: "Who do you want to fight next?" he usually says fellow middleweight (technically) Cotto. If he was in any way serious about Floyd he would have used one of the slots in his (admirably) busy schedule to fight some other guys at 154 to show he could do it. Nobody was clamouring for vs. Stevens / Adama / Monroe so he could've fought someone else on those cards at least.

If the fight somehow did happen, Golovkin is too big and grinds him down within 8 so long as he can do the weight. Floyd looked noticeably smaller than Ortiz, Guerrero and Alvarez and GGG is bigger than all of them, punches harder and is more skilled. There's a limit to how much anyone can go up in weight and still be effective.

*If that sounds like a criticism it isn't intended to be. Nobody in boxing becomes famous in a vacuum, least of all Floyd himself.

Who cares, Golovkin is a Middleweight, has never fought at 154 and will never fight at 154. If Golovkin was to beat Floyd it would be solely due to him being so much bigger and in the prime of career, where as Floyd is former superfeatherweight and pushing 40 years old.

The poll doesn't ask who was/is better at their prime, or who is a better p4p fighter, or if the fight is realistic.

The question is simple: who WOULD win if they fought now at 154.

Well considering GGG has fought north of 154 his entire career, who cares?

As the poster mentioned, GGG is the same size as Canelo, so if Floyd fought Saul, why can't he fight Gennady ?

cause ggg is much stronger and punches much harder than canelo, even a weight drained 154 version of golovkin.

and since floyd has a criteria of guys he does not fight:

very tall boxers in prime: margarito & williams

hard punchers in prime: tszyu & golovkin

the answer is simple, look at the mayweather maidana first fight, it was a draw, the second fight, bayless did not let maidana fight at all, it is a no contest. so if floyd cant do any better than a draw and NC against a solid, but by no means great fight like maidana, than what do you think a prime golovkin would do to floyd?

Tszyu gimme a break.......1 win over a b rated fighter and ass beating to b rated fighters. The most overrated dude in the history of boxing.

plus quit against hatton then lied and said he had a brain bleed but to bad his doc was interviewed and prove good tszyu is a quitting liar. 1 fornicating win zab judah. He could punch but he wasnt even close to great.

GGG is falling in love with his power and like so many sometimes abandones his skill. He has never faced anyone near the style of Floyd.

Floyd would take GGG to school at 154 no doubt about it in my mind.

Why dont we talk about how GGG and his team ducked Lara.

Funny how no one mentions that around here.

I hate responses like this because they are BIASED BULLSH8*T!!

You ASS-umed that Floyd has a criteria of not fighting those guys because it suits your Hater argument, when in reality Floyd was not able to pick and chose who he fought while he was under Arum.

GGG Team hasn't ducked Lara. Lara brings nothing to the table beside Haymon vs HBO related issues. Besides, I doubt HBO wants to televise Lara after the way he fought against Canelo. Don't take me wrong: I think Lara won that fight, but wide audience doesn't want to see fights like that. Lara became another Rigo after that fight.

Lara called GGG out sometime last year I believe.

http://www.boxingnews24.com/2014/02/gol ... bout/#fref

We can go back n forth about networks but bottom line is Lara wanted that fight and Team GGG said Lara wasn't on the radar.

What do you call that?

By you saying Lara brings nothing to the table is kinda like Cotto saying well GGG bring nothing to the table either so why fight him.

Would you call that a duck by Cotto?

GGG is no superstar atleast not yet and neither is Lara but both are highly respected especially among hardcore fans.

Networks care not about hardcore fans but about casual fans who are not interested in seeing fighters like Rigo or Lara.

GGG is the man at 160 which is accepted by almost anybody, so Cotto fighting a guy stopped by GGG in fact constitutes ducking. Lara is nobody at 160. He hasn't even achieved much (at least formally) at 154, so he just not appealing enough opponent compared to even Geale or Murray. Beating Lara at 160 wouldn't add much to Golovkin's resume or to his pocket.

So Lara who is a waaaay better fighter and much more respected than everyone GGG has faced is not worth it.

Nice how convenient when the tables are turned.

Lara called out GGG yet his team was not intrested.

That's a duck no matter how you wanna slice it.

Let's not be hypocrites now.

Have you not noticed that Haymon guys are not welcome on HBO? Its been going on for a while. If that changes anytime soon, it won't be over a guy like Lara, who makes for bad ratings, doesn't compete at MW, whom nobody would give a chance vs GGG.

Who gives a Fuuck about those issue.

Bottom line Lara called GGG and GGGs team were not intrested. If they wanted to face lara or should i say not duck him they could have said lets do.

Its a duck.

You guys don't need to come to Golovkins defense when you can clearly read that his team was not intrested.

End of discussion.

Why would they be interested in the 154er who got dropped 2x vs caveman Angulo, dropped his pants in his one big fight he'd been screaming for forever, makes for boring fight and bad ratings? And most of all, isn't approved by the guys that pay his purse, Hbo?.

Hmmmm

Let me see maybe cuz lara would be the best guy hes faced and GGG could have a chance to beat one of the best fighters in the world.

Instead of facing no hopers in geal, murray, rubio and monroes of the world.

So let me get this straight basically why face one of the best around your division when he can keep on pounding human punching bags.

Nice way of thinking fellas.

As long as you guys keep on defending GGG on this i dont wanna hear any of you get on another fighter for a duck.

You guys just lost that right.

Why is this so hard for you to understand? Haymon guys are not welcome on HBO, that's a fact. And if they were to start showing them, there's dozens of Haymon fighters HBO would rather schedule before Lara. He's just not that impressive even at Lmw, and he's as much of a no hoper as those MW top tenners you listed. Don't believe me, make a poll

No they wouldn't because just like they said "Lara is not in there radar as list of opponents for Golovkin".

I think team GGG is testing the waters a bit by choosing a boxing southpaw for this fight. If they are successful maybe they will consider Lara an option. It does kind of make you laugh though, that they say everyone is afraid to fight him. I would love to see Lara vs Andrade, with the winner move up to fight GGG.
