Kevin Mitchell - The Guardian (spoiler)
Scored this fight for Pacquiao and is thoroughly unimpressed with the scoring.
I think 4 rounds for Pacquiao was generous and I'm truly baffled that someone, especially someone who is paid to write on the sport, can call it so badly wrong.
Is this a one-off or are there other voices crying foul?

Re: Kevin Mitchell - The Guardian (spoiler)
I can see it as close as 116-112 FM but it's a stretch to score it closer than that in my opinion and I think anything but a Mayweather win is very poor scoring.
I haven't heard of anyone else having Pac ahead, though I've seen several 7-5 Mayweather cards.

I think kellerman's response to Pacquiao's claims after the fight were telling. He was shocked by it all

What did Manny allege after the fight?
Re: Kevin Mitchell - The Guardian (spoiler)
He was injured 2 weeks ago. Floyd said he was also injured.Tuan_Jim wrote:What did Manny allege after the fight?
Re: Kevin Mitchell - The Guardian (spoiler)
Jeff Powell had it a draw, I thought PBF had it wide

Anyone who gets paid to write about boxing who didn't think mayweather won is either incompetent or producing clickbait
Re: Kevin Mitchell - The Guardian (spoiler)
I am completely amazed by a lot of the journalists. Pre fight they were trying to build up Pac making out the fight would be competitive, when I thought it would obvious that it would be another Floyd style masterclass, nullifying Manny and then picking him off on the counter.freddydoesdallas wrote:Anyone who gets paid to write about boxing who didn't think mayweather won is either incompetent or producing clickbait
Which IMO was exactly what happened! Now many are saying that Pac won, unbelievable!
Is it because they don't like PBF personally or trying to ensure another all expenses paid trip to LV for the rematch?

This has pushed me to start a poll!

Oh right, his report in guardian....unbelievable ..manny landed 5 punches probably
Re: Kevin Mitchell - The Guardian (spoiler)
I don't wish for anyone to be sacked, but if it is the likes of Mitchell and Powell with their rediculous cards hype up a rematch then I will be dissapointed.
Re: Kevin Mitchell - The Guardian (spoiler)
Kevin Mitchell has been great all week in the build up in the guardian but his post fight piece almost beggars belief.

He sounds very bitter about the result. Even wailing on compubox for having the audacity to say Mayweather threw more punches.samwbr wrote:Kevin Mitchell has been great all week in the build up in the guardian but his post fight piece almost beggars belief.
What a gimp. Musta lost a few quid on it.
Re: Kevin Mitchell - The Guardian (spoiler)
Mate of mine living out in Oz emailed me this week, he's shown no prior interest in boxing the last 32 years I've known him and he asked me how I felt the fight would go.
So I told him, Mayweather on points all day long and why (giving reasons, what Pac would do and how Mayweather would fight etc). He said to me - I think Manny will win in the 7th after they go toe-to-toe. I said no that won't happen because Mayweather has never gone toe to toe.
So he's emailing me as the fight progresses and tells me "Pac is pissing it". I said seriously, are you watching the same fight?
I think some people just stick with their pre fight "predictions" and it clouds their reading of their fight. His mate was also messaging me at the same time, telling me they should score fights for the other guy moving forward and no way did Mayweather win.
It just makes my head hurt.

Shocking scoring from Mitchell. Pretty easy to score. 117-111 or 116-112 in favour of Floyd depending on who you gave that close one to.
Re: Kevin Mitchell - The Guardian (spoiler)
"I thought Pacquiao stole it 116-115"
His 100,000 dollar seat can't have been good enough. The Guardian's editor should immediately draft a letter of complaint to those that allocated the seating. Kevin Mitchell obviously couldn't see properly.
Also, the Guardian editor should complain to the MGM Grand about excessive noise coming from the Pacquiao fans. It must have interferred with Mitchell's usually accurate enough, if a little aerated, judgement, and should have been kept under control. At the very least, Mitchell should have been provided with boxing journo headphones, which distribute an equally balanced, stereo output of the noise coming from both Pac and Mayweather supporters.
The editor should also perhaps start a campaign to try and prevent boxing correspondents from knowing too much about fighers' out-of-ring activities, as this can severely cloud their judgement. Wanting Mayweather to get hit is not the same as him actually getting hit, unless, of course, you are under the influence of drugs.
Therefore, the Guardian editor should also be pushing for full drug testing of all beverages provided to journalists before the fight.

Maybe the Guardian are cutting costs and Mitchell never got to see the fight, instead perhaps he only had access to the Filipino radio broadcast!

I'm guessing he was watching without Jo's insight to call upon.....
Re: Kevin Mitchell - The Guardian (spoiler)
If ANYONE thought that Manny won that fight they were huge Mayweather haters trying to make a case, from a neutral point of view, Mayweather was a clear clear winner, manny landed about 10 punches to mayweathers 100

Re: Kevin Mitchell - The Guardian (spoiler)
This article infuriates me. Can't believe Mitchell crabbing compubox stats as simply being wrong because he can see with his eyes. Absolutely fine they only cover thousands of fights a year and have been doing for 30 or so years!!! Hows he getting paid to go to this fight and produce such drivel. Says on his twitter he's only watched it once and thats what he has to base his opinion on.
Re: Kevin Mitchell - The Guardian (spoiler)
i saw some footage of him recently leathering Sharmba Mitchell and Mitchell looked fast, but Floyd was faster. I guess you could say not exactly toe-to-toe, but he was definitely in the danger area letting his fists fly - he just wasn't there when Mitchell's fists flew back. It was pretty bloody impressive let me tell you.orbtastic wrote:Mate of mine living out in Oz emailed me this week, he's shown no prior interest in boxing the last 32 years I've known him and he asked me how I felt the fight would go.

My prediction before the fight was that Manny would hunt him down and come underneath the jab at speed, and that before 8 rounds had elapsed, Floyd would win the fight - in a similar way to the way he beat Ricky Hatton. So I was wrong!
