Just been looking at his record and noticed that he was the challenger in an astonishing 11 world title fights surely that must be some kind of record especially in the modern age ?

He was the go-to man for the new dawn of the proliferation of titles & their slide into obsolescence/parody:

Will contest absolutely any sort of vacant belt! Guaranteed successful first defence for someone who probably doesn't deserve their title anyway*! Willing to travel to your boy's back garden & accept lawn ornaments as judges! Cuts easily! Can't punch! What are you waiting for?!?!? Him to get old? HE ALREADY IS!!!! For excess punishment to take its toll? IT ALREADY HAS!!! HE'S BEEN A PRO SINCE HE WAS ABOUT ELEVEN!!!

Call 1-800-WEIRDLY-HERKY-JERKY today!

An inability to cut off the ring will be sorely exposed by liberal applications of Manuel Medina-ness. Even if your boy is fuckin' clueless enough to lose to him, we guarantee you a rematch within twelve days, or before Manuel's cuts have healed properly, whichever is sooner. Your statutory rights are not affected.
I rather liked him, myself, & only ever rooted against him when he fought JMM.

Funny, I was just at a dumpy bar in Tijuana, Mexico the night after the Fight of the Century, and noticed Medina's autograph scrawled on the wall.

He wished the owners well with the bar and signed it "Mantecas," with a couple of boxing gloves drawn after his name.

I hadn't thought about the guy in quite a few years, but he's beloved in Tijuana.

Those fights MM had with a prime Harrison were tasty as well.....and going way, way back I saw him go right at it and win against that little Texan lunatic Troy Dorsey who was a nasty little bugger and a much better fighter than he is commonly given credit for.

Guys llike Medina, Zaragoza and Villasana always delivered great fights and turned up in Italy, England, France or Vegas (and anywhere else) in great shape and with the full intention of winning.

We got alot of them in the UK and should be grateful for it....when 'our guy' beat them for the belt you kind of knew that they had won it the right way and could call themselves a legit champ.
