Crolla vs Perez

Post by keirw »

Just announced for the WBA lightweight championship on 18/07 Bill.
Glad to Crolla back in the mix.
Decent looking double header, just hope they don't charge us extra for it.

WBA strike again. Crolla unranked, Mathews is interim champion, Crolla gets the shot at the title.

Happy for Crolla.

Is this another Regular belt though?

Yes, but the hope is the Abril fight will be mandated once his injury heals as Abril wasn't a Super-champ. He was made champion in recess due to his injury.

But you know the WBA, they will probably just make Abril Super-champ if he asks nicely.

What a mess. Fair play to Crolla but the WBA really are the worst of all the governing bodies.

It's for the full title, Abril was stripped, if he comes back he should get first shot at the title but I don't think the WBA would really want that, they're all about sanctioning fees and he doesn't fight regularly or for big money. As things stand unless he suddenly returns, the winner has to fight Derry within 90 days.

I must admit I am confused.

Fair play to Crolla who seems a decent lad - as does Derry - however, you shouldn't get a world title shot just for being a decent lad !

I'll be watching boxing all day on the 18th. In addition to this card, which is looking good, there is Abraham-Stieglitz IV, Kovalev-Mohammedi, Bey-Shafikov, and many undercard fights to be announced.

Can't you at least be happy to see Crolla back in the ring? I know he is a Hearn fighter, but is that too much to ask?
Derry only got his shot due to Crolla's injury.
Also Derry was among the first to tweet Crolla luck.

Two (pretend) world titles on the one card mmmmm

This card is good.

Crolla v Perez

Quigg v Martinez

Eggington v Foot

Nurse v Jenkins

All proper fights I'll probably go. Eddie better not charge extra on top of sky for this.

It's a great Saturday fight night card or another poor PPV. Eddie's choice.

How has Crolla got the shot, i thought Derry was next in line?
If Crolla wins which i hope he do,i can't see the Mathews fight happening because of the Hearn/F.W divide..

To be fair though, if it wasn't for a couple of thugs and a concrete block, Matthews wouldn't have been next in line in the first place.

I was having a dig at the WBA.

I hope Crolla wins and they get the third fight on, as long as it's on allegedly.

Very true but i thought the WBA said that Perez must defend against Mathews next

Would depend on purse bids, can't see them coming to an agreement voluntarily.

Crolla vs Matthews (or Matthews vs Crolla, depending on viewpoint) for the full title would be a great bout, just hope the men in suits can work together as both Lads deserve a decent payday. Provided Crolla beats Perez, of course

Fights Tyrone Nurse on the undercard for the British title, not sure what's happened to Willie Limond with that one.

That doesn't surprise me, Matthews is a decent fella.

Gallagher thinks too much of his fighters to put them in when they're not ready; Crolla is as good a combination puncher as there is in the UK and is a great boxer to watch, best of luck to all the lightweights - I'd love to see Mitchell v Crolla or Mitchell v Matthews.
