Dave Rudken Queensland 1960's & 70's

Post by martinosoldati »

Hi,
My uncle Dave Rudken was a professional boxer (southpaw) in the 1960's & 70's from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
His boxing record is shown on the weblink below
http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer

I am keen to know if anybody has any memories of him they would like to share?

Dave Rudken (aka Davey Rudken, sometimes spelt Rudkin) successfully won the Queensland State Super Lightweight title in 1972 and the Queensland State Welterweight title also in 1972.
Dave Rudken lost in a close 15 rounds bout for the Australian Super lightweight title vs Hector Thompson in 1971.

Does anybody have any magazine/newspaper articles or video/film footage?
I was fortunate to find a short amount of footage of one of his fights in the 1960's.

I look forward to your feedback.

Many thanks.
Cheers.
Martino.

Current Qld fight supervisor & ANBF ratings man John Hogg is your man. He's been recording fights since he was 14 (now 68). However, he atm resides in a unit & all bygone years material is in storage. If you attend a show in Qld, venture there an hour or two before it kicks-off & have a chat with him. His memory is nothing short of incredible.
Cheers

Thank you AntonS,
I appreciate your response. I will try to contact John Hogg, I think I found his phone number online on the ANBF website.
It would be good to have a chat with him to see what he remembers and what he has written in his journals from the 1960's and 70's, possibly even of my uncle Dave Rudken's boxing career. Dave's younger brother Bruce Rudken (my father in law), was also a pro boxer in the early 1970's in Brisbane. Maybe John even has some old boxing film footage too.
Thanks again, I greatly appreciate your help.
Cheers.
