He has chronic back injuries if I am not mistaken. I did hear something about a comeback.
Re: WHATEVER HAPPENED TO DMITRY PIROG?
No comeback. He tried to start training a couple times, and his back bothered him again.

damn piroq is one of the rare guys who would have stood a chance against ggg
solid skills, but very good punching power. not saying he wouldve won, but clearly couldve dropped ggg.

He was fantastic against Jacobs. Sad that he has retired due to injury. His feints and upper body movement were excellent.

He was a solid puncher but not an exceptionally good one.Chepppaaa wrote:damn piroq is one of the rare guys who would have stood a chance against ggg

Jacobs has a shaky chin in my opinion and I believe that contributed to the heavy nature of the KO.

He was excellent against Jacobs. Shame about his injury.

Its funny even at this stage Pirog would still be GGG best opponent imoverballistic wrote:Agree (with the second post only), but give Jacobs big ups for coming back from freaking cancer!! I used to have a major back injury that no longer gives me any trouble and I'm more active & in better shape than ever before. Seems like Pirog could have at least had an easy comeback bout to test it.crusader wrote:He was a solid puncher but not an exceptionally good one.Chepppaaa wrote:damn piroq is one of the rare guys who would have stood a chance against ggg

IMO even at 100% he was not in GGG's galaxy.

If you are talking 160 pounders you may be right, but that still doesnt mean he would have much chance to beat him.[/quote]verballistic wrote:Its funny even at this stage Pirog would still be GGG best opponent imoworld ranked wrote:Agree (with the second post only), but give Jacobs big ups for coming back from freaking cancer!! At that time I think a healthy Pirog would have went the distance. He wouldn't really had a shot but competive though

Re: WHATEVER HAPPENED TO DMITRY PIROG?
can't talk about my favourite fighter prog and not chime in on this discussion.
he has retired, back injuries were recurring.
his style was based on lots of crouching and pivoting in the pocket a bad back would not help and the style would make things worse so all the sparring and training using is style would not lend to him making any comeback of some sort unless he become a more conventional upright fighter.
fight with gig at that time would have let us know all we need to know about gig and prog as both have high boxing iq and ggg has more punching power but pirog knew how to takeaway your main assets and make you hesitant as he was hard to figure out. excellent fight ad style matchup we will never ever know.

Re: WHATEVER HAPPENED TO DMITRY PIROG?
not sure if pirog could have beaten GGG but if he was still healthy he would be easily number 2 in the Division and beat guys like cotto, geale, lee, Lemieux, jacobs, murray or geale.
could have been an interesting fight with GGG although I would see GGG as a slight favorite.
