How about Antonio Vargas? Big win for him over the the Cuban. This guy is a serious 2016 medal contender.

I think Vargas has a good medal chance despite his youth but there are a lot of good Asian boxers out there and Andrew Selby and Mischa Aloyan are also in the mix.

Starts on the 18th I believe
Outside of Vargas, the rest of the lot would be lucky to pull in a bronze at the 2016 Olympic games. Vargas however is very good.

I think the North America and South America get two qualifications per weight class, so those who got gold or Silver in the Pan Am games have an inside track. Bronze still has a shot. We'll see how many boxers from team USA go. I'd guess 4.

When the Americas Qualifying tournament starts presumably most of the Cubans will be absent having already qualified through the APB/WSB.
IMO the USA can field a much stronger team than in the PanAms

Do you know how it works? Can the US, for example, send Ruben Villa or Darmani Rock to the AIBA World Championships?

USA will send to the world championship qualifier the boxers that won the WSB / world championship team trial tournament that was held in Chattanooga back in December.

The boxers who won in Chattanooga go to the AMBC American Confederation Boxing Championships August 17 – 22 in Vargas, Venezuela and try to qualify for the worlds there.
