Loma vs Rigo

Post by PsychoGamerTwo »

Who wins? Rigondeaux had some trouble in his last fight. Im expecting the faster, younger & more powerful Lomachenko to stop him late.

Lomachenko to win, finally something to look forward to, should be a great fight if it actually gets made, what requirements will rigo ask for will depend on if it's made

Probably the best fight that can be made right now in the whole boxing. I think making predictions for this fight is a bit inappropriate, even indecent. :)

It looks like it would be at 124 catchweight and possible rehydration clause:

I'm glad it's happening now before Rigo makes the slide. He will be 35 by the time it happens. Two, 2 time Olympic champs sqaring off. Arguably the two best in amateur history.

Doubt if it has ever happened before and will never again. I just have a feeling Arum will try to kill this fight though.

I would bet anyone here that Rigo schools Loma.

No one is out boxing Rigo you have to be a helluva puncher and hope to catch him by luck, Loma is no puncher.

Rigo easy UD.

I'd pick Loma. The younger more active fighter.

Did they ever square off in the amateurs, surely they would have to of, when Loma was younger he would have been in the same division

Rigo is a small 122 lber.....so hed be tiny 126....

BUT I hate catchweights so if Rigo wants it he needs to go to 126.

Fights like these are it man. Hope it comes off. In this day and age, I'd respect both guys 100% more for taking this fight.

I really don't care who wins. I just want to see it.

Catchweights have bad name because of all the abuses of the practice we have. However in these kinds of situations when you have champions in different weight division meeting in the middle is the fairest option there is. Otherwise either one guy will be too small or the other will be drained. Just dont put the title on the line.

If they fight at 126 Loma KO's Rigo, Loma has size advantage and youth advantage that overcomes Rigos advantage in pro fights. If I was Loma I only fight for 126 pound title no weight stipulations, Rigo is the one who is old and needs money from fight Loma young world is his oyster doesn't need this fight nice fight for Loma but he doesn't need it.

I have my doubts about Arum letting this fight happen and who's going to televise it? Didn't Arum call Rigo boring and HBO claim they refused to air Rigo fights on their network because he was too boring? Does Arum want to risk one of his biggest up and coming draws losing to Rigo in clear fashion like what happened to Donaire again? I can see it already, those clowns on HBO riding Lamo hard acting like every punch he throws he's landing, while Rigo lands sharp accurate punches, puts on a surgical performance and they pay no attention. I personally feel it's a pick'em fight, and would expect it to be a close fight, but I'm hard pressed to believe Rigo is going to get a fair shake if the fight is even remotely close. So I'm going with the safe bet and going Lamo by a close decision in a fight that could have gone either way.

I agree though, this is a boxing enthusiasts dream. Two of arguably the best Ameatur fighters in the history of boxing fighting each other in the pros with less than 20 fights total. I honestly don't even care who wins, I'd just simply love to see it! That kind of thing just doesn't happen, because there's really never been a chance of such a thing happening. I have my doubts that the cards won't be stacked against Rigo if the fight is close, I'm just being honest because everything about this fight the political aspect of the fight seems to favor Lamo (with the promoter being Arum and it more than likely being televised by HBO).

Great fight.

Can't see Arum letting it happen though.

I'd pick Rigondeaux on points. I just feel he's unbeatable at the moment.

I hope Lomachenko fights and KO's Rigondull! That would be the best outcome for boxing.

This would be by some distance the best pure boxing match that could be made. Loma is faster and throws more punches, no one will be stopped but I imagine Loma outworking Rigo.

I think i would pick rigo in this one. Loma is obviously very good, but I have honestly not been blown away like many (kellerman) are. I really don't think he hits that hard and I think that will be necessary to beat rigo. To outbox him for 12 rounds is going to be extremely difficult, he will need to drop him a time or two and I just don't know if that happens.

Catchweights r okay when say Pavlik(160) met Hopkins(175) at 170 thats a 2 division jump. 122 to 126 gimme a break. There shouldnt be a 122 division.

Thats a 1.5 division jump. Plus as you said Rigo is small and Loma is big at their weights and Hopkins was a former MW. Similar situations.

Not the biggest fan of Lomachenko's lack of power but the match up if the weights are relatively fair is exciting should they pull it off.

Loma has done well to hurt all his opponents if he has little power, and I think he can hurt Rigo at least as much Marroquinn and Amagasa did.

I would love to see this so hopefully it gets worked out.

I'd sacrifice my firstborn to see this. I mean, I'm childless, it'd have to be someone else's firstborn, but you know what I mean.

I hope my comment wasn't taken the wrong way Crusader, if it was perhaps I wasn't clear.
I think Lomachenko's power comes more from his timing, positioning and delivery of his punches.
I'm not suggesting for a second he's not a very well equipped boxer because he is, I just don't think he punches hard due to his strength.
Maybe that will change or I could just be flat out wrong but that's how I view his power.
Hope I cleared that up mate. :TU:
