the winner of loma-rigo will also play a role. i mean gold medalist, technicly both are superior to ggg. if rigondeaux wins, it is a no brainer, i mean undefeated, wins over prime donaire and lomachenko and on top techicly superior to any boser out there expect floyd, i mean thats simply > ggg. but, golovkin is up there 2-4.

If GGG continues at 160lbs then by next year he'll still have fought no-one worthy of a p4p no1 ranking.

I think GGG has the tools to be p4p no1 but until he at very least gets the top guys in his division to fight him, let alone moving weights to fight the best, he'll not be given credit (and rightly so) that takes you to no1 ranking.

Lets not forget p4p are largely down to opinions and the people that make these decisions need convincing.

The only thing in the way of GGG moving up to P4P #1 is the reluctance of prospective opponents fighting him.

I think if Rigo dominates Lomo, like I predict, he should be no longer ignored by so many as a top pfp boxer.

i cant believe this, i am realy far away from a boxing forum with guys who know boxing.

how can you rate somebody as #1 when he so technicly limited and limited in terms of speed and athletic ability?

i mean ggg is tough and strong and yes, he is by far the best middleweight in the world, but he can never be any better than a p4p top 2-4.

as long as there are technicly, fast and athleticly superior guys like rigondeaux or lara in town ggg is 2 >

Treating this idea as it was intended, in a post-Floyd world there will likely be no consensus for a while on who is #1 (as this thread suggests), and it would depend on exactly what fights get made in the near future as who pulls out in front. What if a Bradley-Crawford suddenly gets made and Terence stops him inside 7? Gonzalez-Inoue? Golovkin-Alvarez? Golovkin-Ward? Kovalev-Stevenson? Thurman-Brook? What if Rigondeaux's career continues to stall? Most of us who do p4p lists try to incorporate recent resume in with who we happen to think would win "if everyone was the same weight", so questions like the above play a massive role in determining who we'll go for.

As it stands now, if Floyd retired tomorrow (why would he? But still if he did) my own top 5 would probably be Rigo, Gonz, Kov, GGG and Crawford, but I don't see any problem with shuffling around the first four of those names into some different order as it stands now.

Golovkin is as technically gifted as anyone, he is just more aggressive. His handspeed may not be khanesque but he is fast enough. His opponents are always desperate to stop him punching them in the face and body and yet he lands on all of them cleanly and regularly thanks to his awesome Ring IQ, accuracy, balance, knowledge of angles and punch variety. He is more-or-less as good as Rigo at what he does.

If Floyd retires I'll pick Andre ward ,if he starts fighting regularly again ,unlike GGG or kovalev he doesn't need a big divining fight as he has already cleared out his weight class plus he's got some big fights at light heavyweight if he wants them vs kovalev and Stevenson which is think he'd win plus I think he'd beat GGG as well....for me rigo has lots of talent but he isn't having big fights

yes. if ward realy would be as succesful at lh as he was at sm, than he would be a clear cut #1

Hasn't Marciano's record already broken? Ricardo Lopez 51-0-1? Maybe you are talking about unblemished record, or maybe its just that the really small guys don't count.
