WBA orders review of Scoring Crolla/Perez
WBA orders review of Scoring Crolla/Perez
WBA President has asked for a 10 man review panel to score the fight asap. 5 will score it on the full point system and 5 will score it using
the old British style half point system if appropriate. Hopefully at least this will mean that Crolla gets a rematch.
I accept it was a tough fight to score etc and rounds were close but I just had the feeling Crolla was doing enough in at least 7 of the rounds as I remember, then take the two points off and I can't see how he has not won it.
Anthony Crolla can be mightily proud of his performance last night and Eddie made the promise in the ring for another shot, if the above reviewing goes his way, he can dig deep for another joint evening with Quigg and Crolla both on again in world title fights.

Re: WBA orders review of Scoring Crolla/Perez
Despite the (expected) extremely biased Sky viewpoint I thought it was a very close fight. Crolla did well behind the jab and was always competitive but the better quality punches in the main came from Perez. I had it dead level at the end of twelve rounds so had anyone got the nod by a point or two I'd be pretty comfortable with that.
After Perez was deducted two points though it feels pretty uncomfortable to accept that he was given a draw on one card and a point win on another. I just can't really see how.
The scorecards were bad and I welcome any review. However I've seen far worse injustices.

Eddie must have had a word. As he did when he jumped up and spoke directly to Howard Foster after that low blow, who then took a 2nd point off Perez.
Re: WBA orders review of Scoring Crolla/Perez
I haven't seen the fight yet but ordering a review of a dodgy call is opening an absolute can of worms unless there are credible claims of corruption, not just a few wrong calls.
Look at some of the absolute robberies that foreign fighters have faced when they have came here in recent times fighting the event promoters fighter (Beltran vs Burns etc) are we going to have reviews there? or is it only when a British fighter gets the rough end of the stick. Judges decisions should be final unless there is actual evidence of deliberate wrong doing. Everyone calls fights differently, if you leave it to the judges then that's the risk you take.

I thought it was very tight, but I did expect after the point deductions to have Crolla up.
I didnt think it was as clear cut as Sky were making out.

Re: WBA orders review of Scoring Crolla/Perez
Reviews typically do nothing in the main (other than maybe mandate a rematch, which would probably happen with a draw anyway). The only review I have seen to actually work was when the WBC changed the decision of the Hopkins vs Dawson fight which meant Dawson "lost" the title he won.
The WBO's "review" of Bradley vs Pacquiao resulted in the WBO admitting that Pacquiao won - but eff all was done about it.
Perhaps they need to review the actual cards for accuracy, considering it was revealed after that the judge who scored it for Perez actually had it a draw also.

Nothing will be overturned, but there will be enough doubt that an immediate rematch is ordered
Re: WBA orders review of Scoring Crolla/Perez
Jeff Powell from the Daily Mail scored it 120-107 to Crolla

He needs sacking, hasn't a clue what he's watching. The fight was close no-one won by anything like that distance.

I haven't watched it properly yet, but wasn't that on the blind side of the Ref? I only got a glancing look, but didn't think he could have seen it.MightyWarrior wrote:Eddie must have had a word. He also said PAC dominated Floyd, so I'd take that with a pinch of salt.Coco wrote:Jeff Powell from the Daily Mail scored it 120-107 to Crolla

Reviews mean nothing, they've been ordered before then you never more about them. Anthony was hard done by last night, he deserves some good luck now.
Re: WBA orders review of Scoring Crolla/Perez
I think as a challenger you really have to rip the belt off the champion, and I dont think Crolla did that.
I had him up by one or two but I cant argue too much with a draw.

To won a fight you need to win more rounds than your opponent, and in doing so, gain an advantage on the scorecards. By your nonsense logic, you REALLY have to win a round if you are the challenger, and if you only win it by a bit, it must go the champion.MrJasonM wrote:I think as a challenger you really have to rip the belt off the champion, and I dont think Crolla did that.

'For what it’s worth, I did not give Darleys Perez a single round. Only a share of one.
Given that referee Howard Foster rightly deducted two points from Perez for his persistent low blows the decision should have been a foregone conclusion.'
Re: WBA orders review of Scoring Crolla/Perez
Seems that every close decision warrants a rematch for some reason. If Crolla wants another world title fight, go out and earn one like everyone else has to.Supremo wrote:I haven't seen the fight yet but ordering a review of a dodgy call is opening an absolute can of worms unless there are credible claims of corruption, not just a few wrong calls.

Re: WBA orders review of Scoring Crolla/Perez
The WBC recently reviewed the result of a female bout and over turned it to a no contest ordering a rematch. The can has been opened, hello worms.
Re: WBA orders review of Scoring Crolla/Perez
lol @ Powell he has no clue whatsoever.
Re: WBA orders review of Scoring Crolla/Perez
Close but clear win for Crolla in my opinion. Overturning decisions is a bit much but I don't mind rematches (or a fight with whoever the belt holder should the titilist change) being ordered in cases like this.
Re: WBA orders review of Scoring Crolla/Perez
So giving a world class fighter one of the toughest fights of his career and doing enough to win, in the eyes of most people, isn't enough to earn a title shot?expe wrote: Seems that every close decision warrants a rematch for some reason. I wonder if you would be saying that if Crolla was a Warren fighter......
Re: WBA orders review of Scoring Crolla/Perez
No, not when there's a mandatory challenger in place, 3 or 4 better fighters in his own country and several others worldwide. If he goes out and gets a win at a good level, then he's in line for another title fight, until then there's others in front of him in the queue, he's had his go and come up just short.keirw wrote:So giving a world class fighter one of the toughest fights of his career and doing enough to win, in the eyes of most people, isn't enough to earn a title shot?expe wrote: Seems that every close decision warrants a rematch for some reason.
