Willie Warburton with correct training team and manager
Could of been a British champion? Seen this fighter robbed a lot and seen him give top fighters hell on short notice. He also has a great chin only knocked out once in nearly 100 fights.
Re: Willie Warburton with correct training team and manager
I think you might be right, he is one of the more skilled journeymen out there.

Yeah, I agree - potentially could have done pretty well for himself with the right set-up & connections.

will have earned a lot more as a journeyman unless he could sell an awful lot of tickets thats how the game is financially
Re: Willie Warburton with correct training team and manager
I don't think there's much wrong with his training team - more a clear decision to train and fight as a journeyman in order to obtain a regular income. Joe Pennington is no mug and did well with Craig Watson.
Re: Willie Warburton with correct training team and manager
Willie has a great trainer/manager and friend in Joe Pennington. It was Willies choice to go down the journeyman route!

You took the words right out of my mouth.ppb wrote:Willie has a great trainer/manager and friend in Joe Pennington. It was Willies choice to go down the journeyman route!

Wasn't he with Joe Gallagher back in the day
Re: Willie Warburton with correct training team and manager
Which is better 40 fights a year at minimum of £1100 a time or flog his guts out selling tickets and maybe get £2 grand a fight maximum and fight 6 times a year maximum ? He is a really good fighter but not British title level so IMO willie is far better off financially doing what he does and I must say does very well and the best of luck to him

Joe Pennington is a really good trainer
Has had huge success with his gym ( north side )
To suggest he's anything else is a lack of respect.

I remember seeing him live losing to Limond at the Ice Arena up here
I was delighted for him the night he beat Georgie Keen, nothing against Keen,he seems like a top lad too but its always good to see a journeyman upset the applecart, its rarer than hen's teeth
Actually wasnt that the same night Khomitsky KO'd Buglioni? Not 1 of Bunny's greatest nights![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Same. If I remember correctly that was his very next fight after losing to George Michael Carman on the undercard of Stuey Hall v Martin Ward - a fight I was at & where Warburton impressed, blatantly won the fight but didn't get the decision.handsofstone wrote:I remember seeing him live losing to Limond at the Ice Arena up here

Re: Willie Warburton with correct training team and manager
Joe Pennington has now become a journey man coach, not many fighters go to him when they turn pro and nearly all his good amateurs turn pro with other trainers, Craig bunn, kallum de'ath, terry Flanagan, Karl place to name a few.

I see where you are coming from but which of these lads has the best career earnings mate especially regular income ?

Probably Terry Flanagan.spudder56 wrote:pimp wrote:Joe Pennington has now become a journey man coach, not many fighters go to him when they turn pro and nearly all his good amateurs turn pro with other trainers, Craig bunn, kallum de'ath, terry Flanagan, Karl place to name a few.

Re: Willie Warburton with correct training team and manager
I'd say its more to do with tickets than his coach I'm guessing Warburton didn't happen to have a big family or loads of mates etc to flog tickets to. Sad but true
Re: Willie Warburton with correct training team and manager
My mate fought him in his last pro fight before he wrapped it and said he was a tough customer. He beat him handily though. Most of these types have to fight cautious because it makes them a living so we very seldom see them at their best. I wouldn't fancy spilling one of their pints in the boozer lol

I've seen him fight and I once started a thread saying that he could be the new Steve Robinson.
He could have been a lot better, sadly he wasn't.
