Horn vs Mundine - $1mil & Duco to do everything they can to make it happen next year
Jeff Horn goes into the biggest fight of his career tonight dangling a million-dollar bait to Anthony Mundine for a slugfest in Brisbane.
The undefeated Horn tackles Ukrainian iceman Viktor Plotnykov in freezing Invercargill, New Zealand but has already thrown the first big jab at Mundine, challenging him to “Man Up” and fight a young, undefeated Olympian.
Horn’s promoters, the New Zealand company Duco Events, last year offered Mundine a million-dollar purse to face the Brisbane prospect and yesterday said they would do everything in their power to make the fight happen next year.
“I sparred Mundine last year and I got him with some good punches,” Horn said yesterday after coming face to face with Plotnykov at the weigh-in for tonight’s fight at the Southland Stadium.
“Since then I’ve beaten three guys who are ranked in the world top 15 and I know I have the workrate and the power to beat Mundine. He’s bigger than me and he’s very cagey but I’d gladly fight him at his weight of 70kg so he would have everything in his favour — height, weight and experience. He would be a big name win for me and I just hope he takes the fight.”
Yesterday Duco Events director Dean Lonergan said his company would work towards matching Horn and Mundine within six to eight months, building the bout into a superfight like Mundine v Danny Green.
“Jeff is now the No. 10 contender for Floyd Mayweather’s world welterweight title,” Lonergan said.
“With another two or three wins under his belt he will likely be No. 2 or No. 3 in the world and I think Mundine still has a year left in him at the top.
“Mundine says he wants to fight the best and he’s just suffered the collapse of a big fight with the American Austin Trout so what would be better than now fighting a highly rated Aussie on Mundine’s terms.”

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but, the three fighters that Jeff has fought since he sparred Mundine have combined rankings of 568Redback Rasta wrote:Jeff Horn goes into the biggest fight of his career tonight dangling a million-dollar bait to Anthony Mundine for a slugfest in Brisbane.

Thats an average of 187. Instead of doing a Danny Green, wouldn't Duco be better off matching Jeff with someone ranked in the top 100.

Anyone else find the offer silly? I mean for that coin he could get Kell Brook to Australia.
Brook is making around $500-700K per fight at the moment. Could be even less.
Why not fight an international welterweight?

I don't reckon Kell Brook would have a clue who Horn is let alone fight him.
Re: Horn vs Mundine - $1mil & Duco to do everything they can to make it happen next year
He'd need at least double that to get Brook to travel to Australia, he's on PPV every fight from now on, he isn't going to fly 10,000 miles to beat an unranked no mark. He'd get laughed at just for taking the fight.TimFreza wrote:Anyone else find the offer silly? I mean for that coin he could get Kell Brook to Australia.

98% of Australians don't have a clue who Horn is. That's why the Mundine baiting. Duco are using the old Fenech and Green strategy of
Good guy v Bad guy. If the kid is that good ( which i seriously doubt after watching him on sat night ) throw some money at a legitimate
top ten guy. I would be happy to see him fight a legitimate top 50 guy. Rios won't cost a million. Guerrero, Algieri, Jessie Vargas, Perez,
Spence.
Re: Horn vs Mundine - $1mil & Duco to do everything they can to make it happen next year
Mundine is the name that everyone in Australia knows. If Horn gets the win his name gets out to more Australian people. Not many of the Aussie public would know Brook and it's a hard fight. It's good business to challenge Mundine in a winnable fight.
Re: Horn vs Mundine - $1mil & Duco to do everything they can to make it happen next year
i am big fan of Horns but when i read his comments i didn't like the bringing up that he thinks he got the better of Mundine in sparring.
There is an unwritten rule that what happens in sparring stays in the gym as guys are trying new things out , the top lads never talk about who they beat in sparring , anyway would love to see this fight happen

Duco have been playing the media very cleverly.
Re: Horn vs Mundine - $1mil & Duco to do everything they can to make it happen next year
Pretty sure you would find Brook has been fighting for quite small purses. No where near the $1 m mark.expe wrote:He'd need at least double that to get Brook to travel to Australia, he's on PPV every fight from now on, he isn't going to fly 10,000 miles to beat an unranked no mark. This. Even though Mundine won't fight him Jeff's namedropping for publicity.fox wrote:Mundine is the name that everyone in Australia knows. Re: Horn vs Mundine - $1mil & Duco to do everything they can to make it happen next year
Because he's only had one PPV fight and they had to pack the card to justify it being on PPV. There's absolutely no way he would go to Australia for the same money he can get at home from now on, less than he'll get for some fights, especially for such a poor opponent when the fight he wants is Khan and all it would do is take him further away from that fight.TimFreza wrote:Pretty sure you would find Brook has been fighting for quite small purses.
