I imagine it would be better than small hall but not as good as sky. I've never really heard mention of micks name in terms of wage. Allegedly is said to be best payer (when he pays) but normally a wait, whereas Eddie pays well and is immediate. When Hatton had the sky deal his payments were said to be incredible for the level the fighters were competingbiglefthook wrote:What does the boxes that fight on Channel 5 under the mick Hennessy banner earn

Hobson fighters do ok - they are all good ticket sellers.

My best mate was a pro and signed with Barry Hughes initially then Gilmour after Hughes went tits up and lost his license. He earned 600-800 per fight but with Gilmour he had to pay his own medical and 'fight who I tell you and when I tell you'! Total ball bag of a man! I know this ain't really relevant to the thread but just giving an idea of earnings and how some promoters operate.

Wow. I know someone who was under Gilmour who says positive things about him. I guess it depends on levels and what he can get out of youStuarty30 wrote:My best mate was a pro and signed with Barry Hughes initially then Gilmour after Hughes went tits up and lost his license. I don't know the specifics, but there are loads of examples with other "promoters" too.Stuarty30 wrote:My best mate was a pro and signed with Barry Hughes initially then Gilmour after Hughes went tits up and lost his license. I know lads who have been told even before their first fight that if they don't sell at least 100 tickets then they wouldn't get fights.
There are also "promoters" out there who only pay boxers in commission on their ticket sales - not sure what happens if their fight is called off for some reason ?

I've heard from a reputable source that Hennesy fighters are paid in Cashew nuts and Angel Delight.
Re: What does Mick Hennessy and Channel 5 fighters earn
He looks after another boy I know and as far as I'm aware he takes good care of him but my mate wasn't the biggest ticket seller so Tommy probably seen it as he was doing him a favour. My mate was a decorated amateur and packed it in undefeated so with the right guidance I'm sure he could've achieved a lot more than he did. Begs the question of how much wasted potential is out there?kamicazze wrote:Wow. I know someone who was under Gilmour who says positive things about him. Yeah I've heard that too mate. The guys are sharks. To be fair, it's worth remembering that all promoters are risking their own money every time they put on a show, that's why they are called promoters. Not every event makes much money, and some lose money, fighters who can shift a lot of tickets/PPV's etc, are not commonplace, and those that are, expect to be very highly compensated, or will take their services elsewhere.Stuarty30 wrote:Yeah I've heard that too mate. I'm not standing in defence of any particular promoter here, but I think the idea that Promoters are just ripping everyone off is a very silly one.

I don't think that and I agree with what you say but fighters are putting their health at risk every time they step in a ring and should be compensated accordingly. For all the stick he gets on here, I actually quite like Eddie Hearn. He seems to actually care about his fighters. I suppose small time promoters like Gilmour have to be a bit more ruthless in their approach though. Pisses me off how my friend was treated so that probably clouds my judgement a bit lol.

The alternative would be to "promote" the show - the clue is in the job title.Parson Cross wrote:So what's the alternative ?

Re: What does Mick Hennessy and Channel 5 fighters earn
I don't think anyone realises what a tough world the boxing business is. Very hard to make a good living as a promoter.
Re: What does Mick Hennessy and Channel 5 fighters earn
That is unless you have an exclusive sky deal. Hearn has it easy but still does a shite job.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I don't think anyone realises what a tough world the boxing business is. Very hard to make a good living as a promoter.

Where did I say it was easy ? - if it was easy then we would all be doing it (and all be driving round in Bentleys to our mock tudor mansions).Wake up call wrote:If it's that easy, when are you getting your licence?bripez wrote:The alternative would be to "promote" the show - the clue is in the job title.Parson Cross wrote:So what's the alternative ?

If somebody makes the decision to become a boxing promoter, then surely it is not unreasonable that they actually promote ?
Look at some of the shows you see - the promoter hires out the venue and covers the medical costs and security etc. They then have a card of 20 fights (many involving boxers who are both signed to the promoter).
The promoter then says "right lads" you are on a commission only purse, and by the way if you don't sell x number of tickets then you wont be used again.
The only "risk" is the cost of the venue etc. - but with 40 boxers out there selling tickets, this is comparatively low compared to other businesses.
If that is your idea of promoting then it differs from mine.
