"Kid" X

Post by Cutman Scabbers »

Trying to compile a list of boxers who took on the name "Kid" in the ring.

Does anyone know the origin of this practice of naming?

Especially interested in the "Kid" + Place Name formula.

Names I have so far:

Kid Chocolate
Kid Gavilan
Kid Galahad
The Alabama Kid
Kid Norfolk
Cocoa Kid
Ted "Kid" Lewis
Benny "Kid" Paret

Please add to the list!
Even better if you know the stories behind the names.

Thought about this one, but it doesn't count, as it is a reference to the
famous American outlaw.

Thank you! This is a great one.

But what does "Pambele" refer to? Is that a place name?

Cevantes used the name kid pambele as a tribute to a nicuaguan boxer who used the same name. Dont know what pambele means, may be worth asking in the spanish boxrec forum

The origin of the practice of calling fighters 'Kid' is an interesting question.

Interesting. It looks like a place name in Mozambique. Any connection there with the Nicaraguan boxer?
