Kameda vs McDonnell 2 poll

Post by gilgamesh »

Who do you think won?

The opinion seems largely divided depending on what side of the Atlantic Ocean you're on, so I think it might be interesting to mention where you're from when saying who you thought won. Of course you can all feel free not to do this if you want to, I'm just genuinely curious how opinions are on this fight based on the location of the fight fan in question.

Obviously the brits somehow had Mcdonell winning but kameda won that fight no doubt about it.

Those judges must have been sleeping cuz they gave the wrong guy the W.

Gonna have to watch it again and try to see what the judges saw.

I had Kameda winning pretty easily...

I thought anywhere from 114-113 either way would have been legit.....but definitely not 117-110.

1 = 10-9 K
2 = 10-9 K
3 = 10-9 M
4 = 10-9 M
5 = 10-9 K
6 = 10-9 M

8 = 10-9 K
9 = 10-9 M
10 = 10-9 K
11 = 10-9 M
12 = 10-8 M

Total = 115-112 McDonnell

The ringside scorecard was pure fantasy and the announcer bias was obvious.

The difference in the fight for me was round 12. Besides the flash KD I had Kameda winning the round which would have made it 114-114.

Kameda boxed well but he was too cautious and too conservative with his output. McDonnell got the job done and deserved the decision although if it had gone Kameda's way close or ended a draw it would not have been a travesty. There were 4 very close rounds that I split between them.

Looks like some people on here need to watch the fight with the commentary turned down.

In most cases I find the choices of which round you gave to which fighter strange. I had the 3rd, 5th, 11th and 12th for McDonnell...You having McDonnell winning, but not scoring the 5th round for him, which I felt was his clearest round up to that point in the fight is strange.

Kameda stole a round or two in the last 20 seconds but I can't remember which one or two.

I also had 2, 4, 7 and 8 very close, giving Kameda 2 and 8, McD 4 and 7.

Don't think it was close enough for a poll......McDonnell won by 4/5 rounds and with a knockdown as well.....

116-112 McD, 7-4-1 in rounds but the flash knockdown in the last making it a four-point win.

Couple of swing rounds (obviously, I mean, I gave one round drawn) but I think the right man won.

117-110 Jamie McDonnell. I had money on Kameda so I was really rooting for him but no way did he win the fight in my eyes.

Watch without the commentary on. You won't be swayed then.

McDonnell 116-111, although I can see an agreement for it being a point or so closer I can't see any way that Kameda won the fight.
The guy on commentary who gave it 119-109 to McDonnell was way off in my book.

Kameda looked good in short spells when he let his hands go but didn't push McDonnell back enough to stamp any real authority on the fight and seemed to struggle with the tempo.
McDonnell didn't do anything fancy but his jabs and one-twos were so effective that he didn't have to.

It's called effective aggression and quite a bit of what McDonnell was doing was anything but.

Kameda countered well and often, over and over again.

And blocked a lot of one two combos.

115-112 to Jamie, but that includes the piss poor KD in RD 12.

I'd have been disappointed but would have accepted Kameda by razor thin decision.

After rewatching, I had it 114-113 Kameda. Of course, that includes the KD, and giving McDonnell the benefit of the doubt in close rounds like 3 and 6.

:TU: it also looked as if Jamie was always happy to engage while Kameda would throw a fast combo and be away.

115-112 Jamie Mc.

Sounds to me as though both sets of commentary were awful and had the fight far too wide for either fighter. I had the UK coverage and picked up quite early that the commentators were poor so ignored most of what they said. I thought McDonnell controlled the centre of the ring, controlled the pace, landed his jab and outworked Kameda who seemed to settle for a few flashy shots per round. Maybe he thought he could KO McDonnell after dropping him in the first fight. Kameda's reaction at the final bell told the story, it was a half hearted celebration of a man who knew he hadn't won the fight.

UK.
