Quigg team turns down November Donaire fight?

Post by johnswan1 »

http://ringtv.craveonline.com/news/3987 ... to-donaire

Fight fans were digging that proposed Nonito Donaire tangle against Brit Scott Quigg, which was looking promising to unfold in England the third week of November.

But maybe they best set their sights on some other faceoff…

Donaire, age 32, told RING that he’s hearing that Quigg (31-0-2; age 26), the WBA “regular” 122-pound beltholder, is having some second thoughts, for reasons unknown, and he was told Team Quigg is maybe looking at other fish to try and fry. [Editor’s note: THE RING does not recognize the WBA’s “regular” titles, thus the only WBA 122-pound titleholder is RING champ Guillermo Rigondeaux.]

That’s cool, the 35-3 Donaire, a Cali resident, told me.

Time’s a ticking, the end of November isn’t that far away, so he’d like to lock down something of import shortly.

If it isn’t Quigg, Donaire said, c’est la vie, as someone else will get it.

Probably. Jamie isn't an arena filler so will always be on the right hand side of the bill in big fights, but he must have made a hell of a lot of cash this year, especially if this one happens, too.

In November?

Bit soon for Jamie isn't it, saw Hearn mention a Quigg announcement next week on twitter but he also said talks with Donaire were still ongoing.

McDonnell has apparently said he wants one more fight at bantam before xmas and then will move up next year.

Would I be jumping the gun to expect McDonnel and Quigg on the same card in November building to them facing each other next spring

I was gonna say, Donaire's a bit big for Quigg, isn't he? After all, it's been a few years since he weighed 8st 6lbs...

Donaire would annihilate Quigg - there's no chance of fast Eddie sighing off on that whilst there is even the slightest chance of a Frampton fight.

i dont agree. donaire has shown a lot of weaknesses recently, he is not the force he once was while quigg is in fantastic form. it's a tough fight, but a gamble worth taking. quigg can win that fight.

Risk reward wise McDonnell makes much more sense, if the money was there I doubt Quigg would run from Donitare. Boxing is a business first.

Hearn has said the timing isn't right for the Donaire fight, also said that he's talking to Haymon about fights for McDonnell.

I havent watched the link but what does he mean the time isnt right? the times perfect and if it isnt then maybe Eddie should stop blowing hot air and mentioning these big fights next up immediatly after Quigg wins

He's basically saying that the money isn't there because that fight will need to be PPV to get Donaire over but there is already a PPV soon with Kell/Fury, also i'm guessing there will be another in December, so they can meet in November. He does say they are still in talks so I think it could happen next year.

Would Donaire really be thinking of PPV money given his last 2 bouts have been in relative obscurity? He'd likely have viewed the title as his way to big money fights, not as a big money fight.

No surprise though I did seem hopeful. The only way this will have worked is Quigg taking a poor share of the fight purse which I don't think Hearn is too keen on ( one of the reasons the Frampton fight isn't happening ) . Froch did this when Bute came over.

This is one of the times I knew more about boxing :(

You said that with such authority that it seems you know it won't happen, I'm not clued up enough to be fair.

Is there literally no chance at all that Quigg will fight Frampton?

I look out for your posts mate as I know you know your boxing so its a genuine question
