What are the best fights you have seen involving at least one Aussie fighter or Pacific fighter?

I'll kick things off with Daniel Geale vs Anthony Mundine - the first time they met - back in 2009.

The fight was for Geale's IBO middleweight title.

Geale went in as a 3-1 underdog, and was RING magazine's #10 ranked middleweight. Mundine was ranked # 5 super middleweight by RING.

Cracking fight. Could have gone either way. In fact there was a protest and the result of it was a directive that there should be a rematch. But Mundine binned the title and it never happened.

Referee Gary Dean awarded a knock down to Mundine many thought was a Geale slip and in the end that proved decisive on the scorecards.

The judges on the night handed down a split decision. Marcus McDonnell 114-113 for Mundine, Derek Milham 116-113 for Mundine and Richard Green 112-115 for Geale.

Great fight but no way was Mundines KD of Geale a slip. There was a KD of Mundine ruled a slip which I thought was a slip but others didn't. The Harding-Andries trilogy were magnificent fights anyone who hasn't seen those fights should track them down. Fantastic fights.

I was at that fight also. Good fight that could have went either way but couldn't argue with the decision. Katsidis v James Swan for the Australian title in Toowoomba was a cracker. I think it was Katsidis 2nd or 3rd fight.

The controversial slip / knock down was in fact the Mundine one and not the Geale one. 2009 - too long ago to be relying on memory

What causes Mundine to slip? Geale lands a left hand to Mundine's jaw immediately prior to Mundine going down. Does he slip as a result of being hit?

Following the Geale vs Mundine fight team Geale lodged a protest with the IBO on 4 separate grounds >>>

1/ The appointment of judge Derek Milham (Milham did score it widest Mundine's way too - 116-113).

2/ The failure of Mundine’s corner to keep tape secured on their fighter’s glove - how bloody infuriating was that!?

3/ The failure by the referee to identify a knock down of Mundine - see video above.

4/ The alleged intimidation of British judge Marcus McConnell - "we haven't got the judges tonight."

I was at that fight also. Good fight that could have went either way but couldn't argue with the decision. Katsidis v James Swan for the Australian title in Toowoomba was a cracker. I think it was Katsidis 2nd or 3rd fight.

A real pity Katsidis vs Swan isn't on Youtube. Must do a hunt around for it.

alex leapai vs Pieter cronje was an absolute war.

never seen 2 fighters tag each other constantly with huge bombs and both to still be standing at the end.

fight has to be seen to be believed.

Leapai's first pro fight against de Mori was also a war from start to finish. I thought Leapai just shaded him. But it was a fight nobody deserved to lose and the draw wasn't a bad result.

It was like someone had let a wild animal out of a cage when the first bell rang. Carrothers threw well over 100 punches and not sure Toweel even landed one. Surely no reigning world champion has ever been humiliated in such an emphatic manner before or since.

I not a fan of the word humilated but Foreman bouncing Frazier off the canvass time and again for two rounds is something i cant help but be in awe of. It must have been shocking to see it unfold as it happened.

I can vividly remember a display of great counter punching skills between Hector Thompson and Manny Santos over 15 rounds at Brisbane's Festival Hall in 1973.

Hector won the Australasian Lightweight title on points. What grand athletes and boxers were both Hector and Manny!

Surprised you haven't seen the Carruthers vs Toweel fight. It used to get played semi-regularly years ago. Probably on Youtube. Will have a look.

Good list. But Mundine vs Green wasn't a particularly good fight. An anti-climax if anything.

Barry Sewell v Jack Russell for the Australian Super Flyweight title at Twin Towns was a willing affair. Was just a really well matched fight and one that always sticks out in my mind.

I can't think of a more inspiring performance by an Aussie fighter than Jeff Harding's in his fight fight with Dennis Andres.

In only Harding's 15th pro fight he took on the 34-7-2 Dennis Andries for his WBC world light heavyweight title in Atlantic City.

Harding had Johnny Lewis in his corner. Andries had the legendary Emanuel Steward in his.

The last round - especially after Johnny Lewis' words in the corner prior to it - is just hairs standing up on the back of your neck stuff.
