So who's now the NEW King of Boxing?

Post by Chepppaaa »

for me it was always rigondeaux in rescent years, but one thing is true and i will aggree with mayweather fans, rigo didnt have the best record in rescent time. beating canelo or pacquiao is much more impressiv, than rigo's opponents. but, still rigondeaux is the better boxer and that is the most important factor for me, when judging a boxer, or his role in a ranking.

floyd is now gone, ward is back. chocolatito is super impressiv and beating quality opponents. ggg is just a monster und hopefuly he will get guys like quillon or cotto-canelo into the ring with him. lomachenko is undererstimated, for me one of the best. kovalev......etc...

and one more thing...

I AM SO HAPPY THAT HE IS GONE :OhYes: :bag: :yay:  :yay: :bag: :OhYes:

100% think it'll be Terence Crawford as the new king, Gonzales will be up there as will Golovkin, Ward and Canelo. Brook has a good chance aswell.

lets be clear about terence crawford.

he got outboxed for the first 4 rounds by the better boxer gamboa. than gamboa simply got careless and found out that crawford was a bigger puncher than he was. also, crawford had signicfintly size advantage.

dulorme fight, close up until the KO.

what i am saying is crawford is a good boxer, around 6-10 p4p, but he is no elite top of the mountain. once he enters welterweight, he will get a few losses. thurman too big, brook to technicle, even pac would beat him. one thing i am curious is, what would happen, if crawford entered the ring with rances. I say rances would win, but if terence would win against rances, it surely would give him a huge boost, cause rances is a great talent.

Depends on how you define "king"

Who is the best boxer P4P on the planet right now?

Probably Chocolatito until Ward beats up another highly ranked 168 pounder.

Who is the biggest money guy if Floyd isn't there?

Pac (against the right guys), or Canelo

Can definitely see where you're coming from mate. Just think there's something special about Crawford, think he beats Rances personally.

The same guy it was before, Wladimir Klitschko. The heavyweight champion is always the king of boxing.

Exactly. I am surprised to not see him in the list. I doubt he is retiring any time soon.

Only if they are interesting people who make pronouncements on wider social issues and are exciting fighters who put it all on the line in exciting fights.

if crawford beats top opponent like rances than it gets very interesting. beating gamboa, dulorme and rances is a great amount of young skilled top guys, great rescent record, very impressiv

The correct answer right now is Wlad. He's lost what, a handful of rounds over the last decade?

If Canelo and GGG both win their next fights and then face each other, the winner will have a very strong argument.

Kovalev has the talent, but without a Stevenson fight on the horizon I don't see how he can get to that level.

What makes the King? Popularity, talent, record or a combination thereof?

For me its really about the talent and I struggle to look much further than Ward for that. GGG is far more exciting but he seems relatively easy to hit and VK doesn't have the range of skill Ward has. Perhaps Kov can mount a challenge in what would be a great fight if Ward steps up to LH.

I think there's a pretty strong argument for Other. The two fighters who have spent the longest time in The Ring's top 10 p4p are both named Other. Not to mention that Other has been the king of his division for 9 years with barely ever a close fight, except for 2 against Brother and Smother. Anyways, I voted for Other. I think he's the new king.

I wish someone would explain to me why Riggo is even considered a P4P top ten talent because I don't get it at all. The guys only had 15 professional fights and he's been knocked down 4 times. He's been knocked down 3 times in his last 4 fights. How do these statistics equate to P4P consideration? I want to understand here. It's not just this site but most people give this guy high P4P praise and i'd love to find out how. Not busting anyone here. Maybe i'm the one that's wrong?

ESPN is coming out with their first P4P ranking minus Floyd Mayweather today so that will be interesting. I think they will have Roman will top the list and then GGG but my list would have GGG at the top. GGG, Kovalev, Roman, LSC, Thurman.

The top 5 are Golovkin, Kovalev, Gonzales, Ward, Klitschko. The order can be debated but I don't think the names should be. No way should Rigondeaux be top 5.

Personally I'd go:

1 Golovkin
2 Klitschko
3 Ward
4 Gonzalez
5 Kovalev

The question is who is the King of Boxing. The King of boxing is and always has been the champion heavyweight. Pound for Pound is a silly thing made up by some bored journalist to boost the profile of the lesser weights. Wlad is king and the other shrimps are mere princes.

Wlad, Kovalev, Ward, GGG, Crawford, Rigo, Gonzalez

Fantastic talents each and every one but every one with question marks over them.
Lack of top level opposition, often due largely to being evaded, but an issue none the less.
One weight world champions who have bever stepped out of their comfort zones to chase the best (I'll forgive Wlad for this)
Guys who hold one ABC strap and have never unified
Guys who have been inactive for 3 years and done little in the one return fight to convince he is still at the level he once was let alone p4p no1.

Each of those names is a decent shout and it may become clear in the next couple years, but we need some questions answering first and until then none can claim to be a clear p4p ruler like Floyd or RJJ could before them.

I'm with you here, Ricardo Lopez was an excellent box fighter, very strategic and always focused and in great shape - in short, a true professional to be admired and emulated, if he were bigger he'd have been rich as a king and world famous.

That may have been true once but perceptions shape reality. I think you could argue that the top draw is the king of boxing if they are making the most money and having the highest quality of life and getting the most glory.
Anyhow vlad is the genuine champ but hardly a must see ala tyson, lewis etc.
And i know most pounders assume floyd will fight again to hit 50-0, break a record and fight under his own banner.
