Probably Smith as Soro isn't fighting for the title anymore.

I've never seen nor heard of this Thompson character til he was named as replacement for Soro. Kind of gutted as I was looking forward to that one but I'm sure the American will be fit and hard to beat. At least Smith is fighting someone who's ambitious. His level of opponent leading up to this doesn't merit a world title shot but good luck to him.

Liam smith is a good solid fighter.
He will outwork him for a wide points decision.

How is Andrade stripped and then......... no disrespect but if either Smith or Thompson was challenging Andrade for the WBO world title you'd say he was having a warm up until he gets a big name or a better know world rated challenger but he gets stripped and its Smith v Thompson for the vacant title
I haven't seen Smith fight but his record sais he has not beaten a genuine world class fighter i'v seen Thompson fight once and I must admit I didn't realise until I seen Brandon Adams on his record I watched this fight and it was a bit of an upset with Adams expected to win
Thompson shows some pop in his punch's so my pick is the boxino champ by 4 round KO.

Looking forward to this one,im more impressed with Smith each passing fight,he's a spiteful puncher to the body and doesnt get flustered in the slightest,he comes off as being mentally tough like Froch and cant be fazed,i seen Thompson box in the Boxcino tournament and he performed well and upset the odds a couple of times, especially KO'n Adams early in the final,i think going 12 rounds with Liam is too much of an ask though and i fancy Beefy to force a stoppage in the middle rounds
Hopefully Britain has a new world champ this weekend, and Flanagan can do the bizz too

Smith is very proficient and is worth a look, Clive. He has beaten some half decent does in good style and has a mean streak - he seems to enjoy his job. Smith has a good defence and switches to attack quickly, he works the body very well.ClivePatrickLyons wrote:How is Andrade stripped and then......... no disrespect but if either Smith or Thompson was challenging Andrade for the WBO world title you'd say he was having a warm up until he gets a big name or a better know world rated challenger but he gets stripped and its Smith v Thompson for the vacant titleI haven't seen Smith fight but his record sais he has not beaten a genuine world class fighter i'v seen Thompson fight once and I must admit I didn't realise until I seen Brandon Adams on his record I watched this fight and it was a bit of an upset with Adams expected to win

Watched John Thompsons recent 8 round win against a fighter who is slightly similar to Smith. Also don't forget Smith has recently been in fights where he has been 1/50 1/100 to win.
Want Liam to win but Andrade looks like he wants his belt back so can't see a long reign for whoever wins.

if Smith can pick up the WBO Super Welterweight Title this Saturday there are some big nights ahead for Fr@nk W@rren in Liverpool.
Liam Smith, Derry Matthews add David Price, Joe Selkirk, Steven Lewis, Tom Stalker, Jazza Dickens, Kevin Satchell and Paul Butler to that undercard, 12,000 scousers in the Echo Arena should make for some fun nights.

I have a sneaky feeling Thompson will stop him. He looked well up for it today but also he has been the underdog before. Where as Liam has two years of very easy fights and now fighting someone who is going there to destroy him.
Re: Liam Smith vs. John Thompson - October 10th 2015
It looks as though his manager is making a point to Paul and Stephen - if they had stayed with him then he would have got them some bullshit world title as well but the ingrates wouldn't listen.Counter-puncher wrote:wait, wait... I can see Andrade getting a shot at him next year.
