Clearly biased Cleverly fans voting so far, 5 votes for Clev and fonfara each.
Fonfara is the clear favorite and will probably stop the brit.

Re: Andrzej Fonfara (c) vs. Nathan Cleverly - October 16th 2015
Nobody giving Cleverly much chance in this one and the general feeling is that he's finished mentally since the Kovalev blow out,it definitely was 1 of those type of defeats that can ruin a fighters confidence for good and some things Nathan has said since that loss have suggested he isnt as confident as he once was,he kind of reminds me of Calzaghe where he had that cocky swagger and looked as if he oozed confidence but you could tell a lot of it was front,Calzaghe never got exposed but he did look uncomfortable spouting all the bullsh1t that fighters say when in fight mode
I'll disregard Cleverly's last fight as it was over within half a minute but i do think he was almost certainly injured in the Bellew rematch,he never admitted it(at the time anyway,i dont know if he ever did) so fair play for not making excuses,im not totally convinced Nathan's careers finished at a high level,i think this is a winnable fight
Fonfara has been getting a lot of praise for decking Stevenson in his world title challenge but he was widely outboxed in the end and Chavez Jr is a waste of space especially at the higher weight but it was still a good getting the stoppage
I make Fonfara slight favourite going on form but if Cleverly's injury free then he wins this IMO,Fonfara has decent power but he's no Sergey Kovalev and Nathan has a solid chin and can tough it out

Kohei Kono defending his WBA Super Flyweight title against Koki Kameda on the undercard
Havent heard of Kono and have only read about Kameda due to the 3 boxing brother world champion angle,he(Koki) is a 2 weight world champ though aiming to become a 3 division champ,he also held the WBA Regular Bantamweight title but i wont count that,i think it was the same shitty title Jamie McDonnell just retained twice against Koki's brother Tomoki
I dont know much about these small guys but looking at their CV's id imagine Kameda should win this on points

I've gone for a Fonfara points win,not a lot in it on paper for me,except Cleverly seems to be just going through the motions now and i think that will be the difference.

He may be getting well paid and actually think he can win,i suppose if he does actually have some ambition left then a win here puts him right in the mix,i just don't see him doing it.
Re: Andrzej Fonfara (c) vs. Nathan Cleverly - October 16th 2015
I reckon Fonfara takes this by late stoppage.
I'm not sure Cleverly's heart is in the game as much as it was. He took a bit of a hiding against Kovalev and his display against a very ordinary Bellew was so poor considering he is the better fighter between the two. He just showed no willingness to engage and he'll have to do so against Fonfara. That combined with the fight being in Fonfara's back yard makes him a big favourite for me.

Re: Andrzej Fonfara (c) vs. Nathan Cleverly - October 16th 2015
Put Fonfara stoppage shown how tough he was v Stevenson plus I think he has more hunger than Clev.
Just hope Clevs heart is in and he proves me wrong. Could be a great fight.

I like both fighters & consider it a fairly even match. You can choose someone without being biased, Aaron.Aaronide_ger wrote:Clearly biased Cleverly fans voting so far, 5 votes for Clev and fonfara each.

I'd have Fonfara a slight favourite due to current form, Cleverly not making 175 in a while & home ground but Cleverly has beaten a similar level of opposition to Andrzej. A win for either wouldn't leave me too shocked either way.
A good bout between two fighters who are just a level below world class.
Try to get over the 'this country, that country' nonsense. Enjoy being a boxing fan. We're a dying breed.

Interesting fact that nobody knows about Nathan Cleverly... He has a masters degree in maths.
Cant believe its never mentioned.
Back to the topic, i think Clev is finished and Fonfara wins, although Fonfara is getting far too much kudos for the Chavez Jnr victory.

I can't remember who told me, but his degree is in Applied Mathematics.....Wales wrote:Interesting fact that nobody knows about Nathan Cleverly... He has a masters degree in maths.

Wait a minute I can.....it was every interviewer and every commentator wading in with a 'For those of you that don't know' (Sounds best in a John Rawlinsesque tone).
Re: Andrzej Fonfara (c) vs. Nathan Cleverly - October 16th 2015
Clev on points if he's got back down to light-heavy easy. Think it's harsh to say how poor he was against Bellew, he's nowhere near a cruiser weight and was clearly sluggish with the extra weight. If it's been taken off in the right way I think he'll have a few hairy moments but will outwork Fonfara to win on points.

Re: Andrzej Fonfara (c) vs. Nathan Cleverly - October 16th 2015
First of all its not an even match that can go either way, that is what you dont understand good at all. Fonfara has improved dramatically since his close defeat against Adonis Stevenson, he will batter Cleverly.Taansend wrote:I like both fighters & consider it a fairly even match. And They are not both below world class, Cleverly WAS World level but at the moment after moving up and down and taking defeats I see him as a good challenger thats all, I hope he prooves me wrong. Fonfara on the other hand is a legit World class fighter, I believe he can beat anyone at 175 atm EXCEPT Sergey Kovalev. (And yea, I believe he beats Stevenson in a rematch)
Re: Andrzej Fonfara (c) vs. Nathan Cleverly - October 16th 2015
I think Fonfara got much more appreciation for KO'ing Chavez then real kudos. Like how Maidana bashing up Broner raised him to saint like status for a while. I think Fonfara was the favourite going in.Wales wrote:Interesting fact that nobody knows about Nathan Cleverly... He has a masters degree in maths.

I agree though that Cleverly is probably finished just going off his non-performance in the Bellew rematch. Fonfara really isn't very good at all, he's got about zero natural talent but he's very hungry, well conditioned and gets the most out of his ability. That's what kept him in the fight with Adonis even though he was over his head and that's what i think will give him the clear grinding UD over Nathan.
Re: Andrzej Fonfara (c) vs. Nathan Cleverly - October 16th 2015
Fonfara KO in the first half of the fight.
Re: Andrzej Fonfara (c) vs. Nathan Cleverly - October 16th 2015
I can't see Cleverly being able to keep a strong durable big punching Fonfara off in front of a very partizan crowd.

Re: Andrzej Fonfara (c) vs. Nathan Cleverly - October 16th 2015
A few people are mentioning the Bellew rematch as a reason why Cleverly might not have the hunger for it anymore but no ones been mentioning that he clearly went into that fight injured or at least got injured very early in the fight,i'll give him credit for sticking it out for 12 rounds and not making excuses afterwards
Down at Light Heavyweight, the Cleverly before Kovalev is better than Fonfara,if Nathan stinks out the joint again like last time losing feebly to Andrzej but showing no sign of an injured hand then i'll change my mind and agree that he might not have the stomach for the top level
Until then i'll keep the faith

Has anyone ever done that well after dropping from cruiser to light heavy? It's a big old drop in weight and must be difficult to cut if you bulked up correctly.

First time that we get an all Japanese world title fight on US soil.handsofstone wrote:Kohei Kono defending his WBA Super Flyweight title against Koki Kameda on the undercard

Kono is a tough but limited fighter, can be made to look silly if an opponent moves but does hit harder than his record suggests (most recent wins have came inside the distance). He was talking about retirement prior to beating Tepparith and is the weakest of the champions at 115. If you want a treat watch his fight with Solis.
Koki is a talented boxer but no where near as good as he thinks. He was a big guy at 108, though needed a bit of luck to claim a title there, beat Naito at 112 in what is his best win to date (and avenged Daiki's hilarious loss to Naito), lost Wokjongkam before skipping to 118. At Bantamweight he never had the power to keep good opponents away and was VERY lucky in his win in Korea.
It's Koki's to lose, but neither are are close to being the best Japanese guy at the weight never mind a real top level guy.
Re: Andrzej Fonfara (c) vs. Nathan Cleverly - October 16th 2015
He most certainly wasn't the favourite for the Chavez fight. I know as I was so much of an idiot that I had Chavez in a multiple for quite a big amount. Think Chavez was about 1/5 favourite with Fonfara about 7/2.Shirow wrote:I think Fonfara got much more appreciation for KO'ing Chavez then real kudos.
