Kameda takes it to become a FOUR division world champion.
Re: Kohei Kono vs. Koki Kameda
Early odds have Kono as the 5/1 underdog in this one, I know little of both men to be brutally honest, be interesting to hear your reasons behind Kono, is he worth a bet at those odds?Cutman Scabbers wrote:I'll go with Kono on this one.

Re: Kohei Kono vs. Koki Kameda
FOTY contender although nearly ruined by the ref who seemed to get decisions wrong all night and was out of his depth,im still not sure if the blow that had Kono down early was low,i thought he looked hurt to the body, then he seemed to take a point of Kameda for holding when he hit on the break
I thought Kono was a clear winner who fought like a man possesed,Kameda just couldnt live with his workrate,Koki grew as the fight wore on but Kohei wouldnt let him in it and i had Kono winning a pretty wide 117-108,everytime Kameda seemed to be making headway,Kono would come firing back with twice as many
Great effort from both men

So you don't know everything about little Japanese fighters then
Bloody good fight though. Ref made a bit of an arse of himself though. Wouldn't mind seeing that again
Between that and clev/fonfara a good bit of matchmaking by PBC.

Like Cleverly he fought the wrong fight. Had he not gone to war with a tough guy and instead boxed he'd have taken it, similar to the fact that Cleverly not using his feet cost him.davie wrote:Boxing Prospect wrote:Koki decision, too smart too fast too good.

Koki, like his brothers, has a brain that seems to be turned off a lot.
Re: Kohei Kono vs. Koki Kameda
I think I'd still pick Komeda in a rematch.
Like you say, different tactics and different referee and I think Komeda wins it. Looked to have the edge in power and was more skillful and accurate than Kono.
The UK commentary team highlighted ringrust, but both men had been out of the ring for a similar time. But Kameda could have worked harder though and it might have been enough.

Great fight first time seeing either fighter. That red was shocking though.

Shouldn't Kono/Concepcion happen now? Or will WBA fuckery prevent it?

I can't recall seeing two 12-round bouts that were so terrific on another boxing show. The Kohi Kono-Koki Kameda and Andrzej Fonfara-Nathan Cleverly bouts were action-packed and very competitive to an extreme degree. By the way, why wasn't a Japanese-speaking referee brought in to be the third man in the Kono-Kameda bout with both fighters being Japanese? Regardless of his ability to speak Japanese, the referee of the Kono-Kameda bout simply did a terrible job.

Would have been good to have a Japanese-speaking ref.Chuck1052 wrote:I can't recall seeing two 12-round bouts that were so terrific on another boxing show.
