Jason really stepped up and he was determined to win, I thought it was a good scrap with some really good rounds. I was worried for Jason beforehand but Macklin has slipped though he got stuck in. Macklin made a meal of the 'low' blows which were on the belt, they weren't in the bollocks. Jason boxed out of his skin and made it very close, I hoped for a draw.

Decent fight but Macklin dropped a few levels and struggled which says it all.

I was bored Jason did have a good go but never looked like his power was enough to wobble Matt. Macklin really took the piss with the not so low blows and the accidental head clash which were just opportunities to catch his breath and eats away at his legacy.

Can Matt afford to hang them up? Rumour mill used to suggest not due to outside influences, but rumours are often just that.

I thought it was a cracking fight, sure Macklin looks a shadow of the fighter who fought Sturm and Martinez but a great fights a great fight and if they were 2 evenly matched domestic fighters we'd be singing their praises

Funnily enough i thought Macklin showed great grit and determination,he's a renowned body puncher and Welborn has been hurt and stopped to the body by then lower level fighters Gavin and Beefy so when Welborn never wilted from Macklins body blows that must have had him worried, and more when Welborn came back with equally good shots

I do agree that Macklin should walk away on a high though,he won but the manner should open his eyes

I enjoyed the fight, but a few years ago Macklin would have dominated. Would be nice to see him retire now.

Agree he got all the favours including ref, judges and commentary. Times like this that boxing really gets on my tits. He looks shot to be honest, the wars and years have taken a lot out of him, he starts to look beaten up and a bit ragged 3 rounds in nowadays.

That really wasnt a boring fight. Sure, it wasnt world class standard but those two lads slugged it out and gave good value for money.

Macklin has been done for some time, i think we all know that.

agree with comments regarding the help he got from the ref , his protector was riding high and the second one looked like a fair bodyshot to me .

He's always in good fights Macklin.

I think world level will elude him now there's a new breed at light-middle.

He's more than capable of mixing it at domestic level.
He's ok for a few quid with the success of MGM.

A good time for Macklin to call it a day. I've always liked him but he'll never get back to world level and will only end up getting hurt if he carries on too long.

I guess there is always something slightly intriguing in a macabre way about the faded boxer who used to be fringe-world level now struggling along at a lower level and having wars with people he'd have previously beat with ease.

It's interesting to watch, to a point, but realistically no-one wants to see Macklin gets hurt, he's been a good servant to the game but looks and sounds punchy these days.
