Might give Chris Eubank Jr a watch this weekend...

I have to say I think Eubank Jr is grossly overrated.
I don't think he's going to amount to anything much - he's so crude and predictable, and without an extensive amateur background, he's not likely to be able to improve that much in the time he has.
He's an impressive physical specimen, and is doing ok, but a world beater - not a chance.

I don't think anyone has said he's a world beater bar maybe his daddy but I could be wrong.
I agree he looked so raw and crude against Saunders. He did well to make that so close with his limited skillset.
Hopefully he can improve though. I mean, there are some guys who took to the game very late and became genuine world class. Hasim Rahman and Nate Campbell spring to mind. Jnr does seem to have hit a ceiling. I'd like to see him in with a live body for once and see if he has made any adjustments. If he can stop Spike fair play to him.
Re: Might give Chris Eubank Jr a watch this weekend...
I like the look of a fight with Spike ossulivan , hes show decent form in past few fights and can certainly punch , hes not short of confidence either.
it wont be a walk in the park for Eubank and he will most likely need to go to points to win.

I think Eubank is going to struggle more with boxers or box/punchers. I've not seen enough of Spike to make a reasonable assessment - as I don't get to see a lot of domestic boxing any more.
Re: Might give Chris Eubank Jr a watch this weekend...
I'd give him a good chance against the winner of Lee vs Saundersjamesmcdonnell wrote:I have to say I think Eubank Jr is grossly overrated.

I think he showed enough in 6 rounds against Saunders and in the Chudinov fight that he can compete at world level. Wouldn't mind seeing him in with the winner of Quillin/Jacobs, I don't see him being outclassed there either.
There's only one (fairly obvious) name I wouldn't give him a fighting chance against
I'm not saying he wins all the fights above but he's in that kind of category for me.

He did well to make it so close against Saunders? Eubank did nothing but pose for the first 5/6 rounds otherwise he'd have won it.black panther wrote:jamesmcdonnell wrote:I have to say I think Eubank Jr is grossly overrated.

Brains it had little to posing ,he could not get in to the first 7 rounds of that fight because BJS was far to skilled an sharp for him an not to mention set a ballistic pace on Jnr, it wasn't until BJS slowed down that he was allowed Jnr to share some of the rounds , it was BJS that allowed him in to that fightMattCoke wrote:

Re: Might give Chris Eubank Jr a watch this weekend...
Eubank jr is one of my favourite boxers.
Not because i believe he is the next coming of Roy Jones jr or anything like that. Hopefully if he continues to improve and the power really develops then he could be something special but it's hard to tell how far he will go at the minute.
But because he's a bit of a throw back to the days of his dad. He knows it's an entertainment business, he's exciting to watch and even at the level he has been fighting at he really adds atmosphere to a live venue. He has money he didn't have to step up to fight BJS who should have absolutely schooled him with Eubanks limited experience and lack of quality opposition. Yet he then stepped up to chudinov straight after a loss and put on a real fun display.
He's a tough kid, nice skill set, entertains, willing to go into big fights that he could easily avoid, what's not to like?

Can't agree with this, there was a lack of effort from Eubank in the first 6 rounds and it just looked like he just decided to start fighting in the second half of the fight.CiganoBoxer wrote:Brains it had little to posing ,he could not get in to the first 7 rounds of that fight because BJS was far to skilled an sharp for him an not to mention set a ballistic pace on Jnr, it wasn't until BJS slowed down that he was allowed Jnr to share some of the rounds , it was BJS that allowed him in to that fightMattCoke wrote:

Once he did he seemed to have the measure of BJS and Saunders didn't seem to have an answer for him.
I don't know if Eubank chose a strategy thinking he'd pick up the odd round early and take over in the second half but it very much looked like the pace of the fight was entirely dictated by the way Jnr wanted to fight it.

O' Sullivan would be a decent fight. He's tough but not much else. I don't remember him winning a round vs BJS but I think I'd had a few while watching it.Gazmac81 wrote:I like the look of a fight with Spike ossulivan , hes show decent form in past few fights and can certainly punch , hes not short of confidence either.

Re: Might give Chris Eubank Jr a watch this weekend...
You're giving BJS way too much credit, he should have taken Eubank to school with the amateur and pro experience he has against some of the top British names. Instead Eubank who had never done a 12 rounder before (never mind faced a live opponent) saved energy for the first half of the fight and then gave BJS nightmares for the second half and BJS ended up with a split decision. Eubank allowed BJS to put away the round in the first half it was nothing to do with BJS's ballistic pace and skills.CiganoBoxer wrote:Brains it had little to posing ,he could not get in to the first 7 rounds of that fight because BJS was far to skilled an sharp for him an not to mention set a ballistic pace on Jnr, it wasn't until BJS slowed down that he was allowed Jnr to share some of the rounds , it was BJS that allowed him in to that fightMattCoke wrote:

Since then Eubank has proved that he can go hell for leather for the better part of 12 rounds, if he had that confidence in his own stamina in the first 12 round fight BJS would have lost.

How has he "got money"? I'd be amazed if Sr had much, let alone Jr.Finn wrote:Eubank jr is one of my favourite boxers.

Re: Might give Chris Eubank Jr a watch this weekend...
The jury is still out.
Had he got into gear against Saunders a round or two earlier he'd almost certainly have won - and possibly stopped him. As it was, that's all ifs, buts and maybes. He lost, having largely given away the first half of the fight. Saunders also boxed very well.
However its likely he's still on an upward curve. The addition of Booth to his training will help you'd think.
But I agree that he might always struggle with a slick boxer. Eubank's career to date suggests he's decent against opponents there to be hit. The further up the levels he goes they will have to match him just right or he'll probably come unstuck again via a points decision somewhere down the line.

The Saunders fight was the only real yardstick for which he can be judged. Fighting journeymen on Channel 5 are learning fights, nothing more.
I actually think he needs to leave his dad off of TV though. No doubt his dad can help, with contacts in the sport and training. He'd be silly not to use those things, if offered. But I find Eubank Sr's titting about on TV frustrating, and can only imagine how his son feels.

Yu saw what you saw . You got what you got , and that was a British / European level fighter boxing a up coming British European fighter ,, the experienced fighter of the two , lacked the stamina, to make what should of been an easy fight , a hard one , which he could of easily lost , The up comer (EUBANKS DID'NT SHOW THE SKILL SET TO SUGGEST HE SHOULD OR C OULD MAKE WORLD CLASS . thats not to say he will not get there with more experience , but at thie moment he is british level only ,, Saunders is British level and thyats it he's not getting any better , after all if he could'nt put away and struggled with Junior , it really showed him where he is on a world lecel ,, do you think GGG would of gassed after 6 rnds

Agree, the fight said more about Saunders than it said about Eubank Jr. Gassing (again) against a relative novice like Eubank doesn't bode well for Saunders in the Lee fight - if BJS gets that sloppy against Lee, he'll get knocked out.coneye wrote:Yu saw what you saw . Eubank Snr/Jnr calling out GGG again
http://www.skysports.com/boxing/news/12 ... -to-father
Eubank Jr said of the Kazakh: "He's got weaknesses that I feel I can exploit, so the goal is to work towards that fight. It's a huge fight down the line.
"He's easy to hit and he's slow. Those are the weakness I see and I think I can exploit in my opinion. I don't think he's had a defining fight. I don't think he's fought anyone who's really been there to try and win.
"I'm not going to say anybody can beat me. The question is who the public want to see me fight. People have mentioned George Groves and Martin Murray - these are fights the public want to see.
"I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my fans so if that's what they want and we can get, that's what we're going to do."

Re: Might give Chris Eubank Jr a watch this weekend...
The problem as I see if, is that if he can't physically impose himself, and hurt his opponent, he lacks the accuracy and footwork to dominate them on points if they are good boxers. He will look good against those who can't get out of the way, or whose own tactics mean they are in front of him - unless of course that person is a bigger hitter and physically stronger - in which case he's likely to get blown to bits.Loftgroov wrote:The jury is still out.

I don't think he's fluid enough to come on much - Eubank wasn't the most fluid, but he had extensive amateur and pro experience by the time he was Jr's age.
Of course time will tell, but no evidence to suggest more than British level, he may be able to win a londsdale belt at a push if his stamina improves, but the blueprint seems to be there to beat him. Saunders gassed, allowing Eubank to hit him over and over again with the uppercut, which should have been easy to avoid.
My guess is he will do alright on his name, and make a decent earner despite not really achieving that much - for that, he should really be truly thankful if it turns out to be the case.
I'm always happy to be proven wrong however.
