Sinan Samil Sam rip.

Post by witherspoon »

Many sources reporting Sam has died of liver failure at 41 years old.(I'm on my mobile, can't post links)
I knew he was a heavy drinker and diagnosed with cirrhosis. Still, 41 way too young.

This was tweeted by the Sauerlands this morning: -

"RIP Sinan Samil San. Full of sorrow 2day. Our former Euro Heavyweight Champ has passed away. Bull from the Bosporus."

I remember first seeing him demolish Danny Williams. I'd never heard of him at that stage and was surprised at the ease he took Williams apart at a time when Danny was on a bit of a roll.

Sinan was one of my favourite boxers back in the early 2000s. His inconsistency cost him a World Title shot, but he should have gone further in the sport.

It's a sad day, RIP Sinan.

:TU: I was very surprised by his ability, he was fast and hit very hard. What a shame for his friends and family, alcohol can be a terrible drug and that someone so strong in body and mind can, basically, kill themselves with drink shows how powerful it can be. RIP and hope his family can recover, it must be awful to watch someone you love harm themselves this way.

mercman wrote:I too was shocked at how easily he handled Danny Williams. Samil Sam comprehensively out-boxed Danny and must have knocked him down about four or five times before it was stopped. I remember watching it live on telly and thinking Williams was going to beat him easily when I saw the two of them strip off. No such thing though.

RIP Sinan.
From what I can remember his jab was terrifically powerful, he looked like he could knock a brick out of a wall with it; he didn't look athletic but his stamina was good - he was a fine fighter :salut:

What a shame.....sadly one of the most consistent things about boxing champs is that so many of them end up in a bad place when what they've offered and achieved in the ring should allow them to have a good, peaceful retirement.
