Re: Updating the BOXREC Forum Heavyweight Rankings
They definitely should. Fights between ranked guys are (unfortunately) rare, so not rewarding fighters for staying active and convincingly beating their opponents, however limited, causes stagnation in the rankings. This was a problem in the past and it rewards fighters for being inactive - people like to demote fighters for losing or putting in poor performances, but are hesitant to reward them for good ones. Also, many of my changes were simply fighters moving up one spot because someone ahead of them was demoted.cold187 wrote:Not sure if guys should rise after beating unranked opponents
Re: Updating the BOXREC Forum Heavyweight Rankings
very fair answer
2nd query - seems OTT that Thompson goes from 9 to out!!! based on a loss vs a guy who is very talented when not taking a dive
if povetkin or pulev lost to scott, they wouldn't be thrown out of rankings
either way
I vote Cunningham out as he's moving back to cruiserweight and put Thompson n his place. and scott to 11

Thompson is shot, he showed it against Takam and he showed it against yesterday, he is not a top 15 heavyweight any more. Beating to a fat Solis is not enough to keep you in the top 15.
Re: Updating the BOXREC Forum Heavyweight Rankings
A: Chisora to 11.
Chisora is nothing special. Those wins were nothing special either. I do believe that inactivity should be punished so I am ready to raise the guys on lower ranks on activity alone. As long as they win of course. I do think that Chisora is is good gatekeeper for the top 10. Hes not an easy win for anyone.
B: Szpilka out.
Getting gift win against unproven fighter because he gets injured should not get you no where near top 10. He has exactly 0 wins of the caliber needed to get in these rankings. Beating narrowly the corpse of Adamek does not count either. If you have any doubts about the level of Szpilka go watch both of the Mollo fights.
C: Cunningham to 11.
I do believe that Cunningham belongs on this list. Hes a good boxer. Another gatekeeper for top 10. I think we should not remove him from the list until he fights at cruiser.
D: Glazkov remains at 7.
I would love to give some activity points on Glazkov here. Too bad that Manswell is not good enough to count. Takam vs Glazkov would be sweet fight and pretty much the only way to know which one is better.
E: Pulev to 3.
Arias is not much of a win. Pulev still has much better names on hes win list than Wilder. The belt that Wilder has means shit. Nowadays it is the champ that makes the belt and not other way around.
F: Wilder to 4.
Duhaupas is decent boxer. But no way near great. He has great chin and some ability. Too bad he does not have power. If he had he could be something. Now he is just another hand picked opponent for Wilder to feast on. Wilder still has just one top 15 caliber opponent on his list.
G: Joshua remains at 15.
I am not sure that Joshua belongs in top 15 just yet. He has the ability but lacks the wins to prove it. Anyone remember that Price fellow? Anyways beating Cornish has zero value when talking about top 15 boxers. He has nice looking list but when you dig it just a little bit you will see that there is not much substance there.
H: Scott stays out. Thompson to 10.
I think Scott was bit bad match up for Thompson. Too fast and tall. Scott is still fragile and Thompson is tough nut to crack. I think that Thompson has much better changes to win against other top 15 fighters than Scott.

Fights in the last three years:Freedom2013 wrote:Topic E - Pulev to #3, Arias remains unranked.

Pulev - Thompson, Abell, Perkovic, Klitschko (lost) & Arias

Wilder's record is much better than Pulev's over the last few years. Pulev's only good win in the last three years is Thompson and that was over two years ago.

Parker KOing Meehan deserves to be included in the voting I think. Its a better win then the half of those in the list.
Ortiz win could be voted as well.

100% agree with this. Why reward Pulev whose last fight was an 8 rounder? And his last top 20 opponentHorse wrote:Fights in the last three years:Freedom2013 wrote:Topic E - Pulev to #3, Arias remains unranked.

Re: Updating the BOXREC Forum Heavyweight Rankings
I think the number of topics might be bit overwhelming to some
It is true that Pulevs latest wins are not that great. On the other hand Wilder has no great wins at all.

Nor does Pulev.Heretic wrote:It is true that Pulevs latest wins are not that great. On the other hand Wilder has no great wins at all.
Re: Updating the BOXREC Forum Heavyweight Rankings
Well maybe great is not the right word for it. Should have said good instead :geek2:
Ustinov and Dimitrenko are both good wins. Beating Thompson was at that time a very good win. Thompson was near the top then.
Heck even Walker is better win than 32 names on Wilders list.

Even Wilder's Stiverne win is overrated - he's only beaten a shot Arreola and age 42 Ray Austin (who was dominating him up until the KO round), and was stopped by a clubfighter with a losing record.
Re: Updating the BOXREC Forum Heavyweight Rankings
Duhaupas, Scott & Stiverne are at a similar level to Dimitrenko, Ustinov & Thompson. Pulev's best wins are not clearly better and are arguably not as good as Wilder's.Heretic wrote:Well maybe great is not the right word for it. Should have said good instead :geek2:

The main difference is that Wilder has beaten his best opponents recently, whereas Pulev beat his best opponents over 2 years ago.

I think Pulev has a stronger resume than Wilder to date, but based on the last couple of years, Wilder should be ahead.
