Fighters who were considered shot at a young age..
Gomez was only 26 when he faced Arthur but was considered over the hill.
Erik Morales was an old man in boxing terms at the age of 23
Any others you can think of?

Fernando Vargas
He's only 37 today, but was shot by 2005 aged about 27.
I reading about him rattling off 17 or 18 stoppages when he began, then got took the distance by Winky, then halted by Felix, Oscar, Mosely, Mayorga etc.

Oh yeah, that's the one I couldn't think of - Vargas is the most shot I have ever seen from a guy in his 20's. Seeing his final performance against Mayorga was like watching an old man.G0mez wrote:Fernando Vargas

The lighter weight fighters are usually done by the age of 30. Charlie Magri had won and lost his world title, had another go at regaining it and had been a pro for 10 years by the age of 29.
It must be hard for a fully grown adult man to get down to eight stone.![[icon_e_surprised.gif] :oo](./images/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif)

Benitez the worst one I can think of.
Juan Manuel Lopez is another who went from world beater to shot fighter very quickly.

Remember a lot of people saying Ryan Rhodes was shot years ago and to be fair it looked like he was a bit, then he had some of the best form of his career.

Tyson to a degree, he was a beast in his early 20's and then went down hill from there.

Bobby Vanzie wrapped it young after a few defeats. Don't know if that had anything to do with injuries or what?

The battering that Vargas took in the Trinidad bout was something else...to go all the way in to the 12th and then get KOd must've taken it's toll on him psychologically as well as physically.
Then the heavy stoppage to De La Hoya after another long hard fight.
You can only go to the well so many times. The well was drained by Trinidad.

Paul Appleby looked like he was going to go onto bigger things. Looks absolutely shot to pieces and has done for a good while now. Still a young man.

Wilfred Benitez.World champin at 17 and then by 26 was only average.
Once he hit 28 he went 4-4 in his last 8 matches

There is a difference between being "shot" and just found out not to be at the level you were once thought to be. Price isn't shot, he is just not as good as he was made out to be. Hatton peaked relatively young and his lifestyle meant he declined rapidly and was shot.

Paul Appleby was the first that came to mind. Brave, brave lad but he'd been in some hard fights at a young age.
Juan Diaz at world title level. Not shot in the true sense but well on the downward slope by his mid-twenties.
