http://www.thefightcity.com/top-12-time ... -punchers/

Here's a nice list, not light on old-timers and doesn't seem to favour modern fighters as much as I would have expected.

Tommy Hearns left hook to the body was a brutal shot.

Ali said George Foreman's bodyshots 'dehumanised' him.

SRL is a very underrated body puncher. He landed some brutal shots on Hearns.

The best I've seen has to be Chavez Snr.

The hardest body shots I've seen are either the left hook Mickey Ward not Alfonso Gomez with, it finished his career - or the right hand Tony Zale hit Rocky Graziano with - that was a truelly horrible punch.

The great Wilfredo Gomez was a terrific body puncher as well.

Also Felix "Tito" Trinidad.

The greats like Wilfred Benitez and Pernell Whitaker were underrated body punchers. They went to the body to keep the other guy honest

I remember watching Mathew Hilton for the first time I think it was against a American journeyman Bruce Jackson I was in awe of the body punching display Hilton put on that day it was frightening :TU: the commentator said something like Hilton on the inside is uncoiling his body like a snake to position himself for his vicious body attack Jackson retired on his stool and you really couldn't blame the poor bloke :salut:

While he was never the same after his loss to Toney, Vassily Jirov was quite the body puncher.

That list is undeniable elmersalsa. I would like to add slightly off topic, elmersalsa is among the most knowledgeable of posters when it comes to the "boxers of the past" forum. Thank you elmersalsa for sharing and teaching me about historical boxers through many threads and discussions, a true boxing historian.
Thank you, boxingfan5101. I know what I know. Those stupid comments from a poster that said about me that I don't know much, really he doesn't know what he was talking about. He's full of shyte in my view.

Thanks for the compliments, boxingfan. At least someone in this forum noticed me THAT I KNOW WHAT I KNOW and I could live with that. May JAH bless you always, boxingfan5101!

Lots of good picks. Anyone think a man like Battling Nelson would be a good addition? Famed for his unique left hand shot to the body, no?

...while not having the power ward or zale, jake lamotta was a terrific constant body puncher. he just kept banging away for three minutes of a round...his chin and ability to slip punches helped keep him in there.

And in an odd sort of quirk, he was a great body puncher and his hands were unusually small, and with the power he did have, it must have felt nearly like being poked with a tire iron. I imagine bigger hands and gloves actually spread the punch across more real estate, and could cushion the experience. Some of his opponents might have felt like they were being knifed.

At heavyweight a guy who is overlooked in this department is Gerry Cooney. His left hook to the body ranks up there with anybody's . . broke Ron Lyle's ribs (sending him through the ropes) and keeled Larry Holmes over with that punch.
