Teddy Atlas - we're fireman!
Teddy Atlas - we're fireman!
Here's a clip of Teddy getting mad philosophical on Bradley during rounds: http://screengrabber.deadspin.com/teddy ... 1741252055
I think Bradleys eyes were starting to cross themselves, good job the bell rang to start the round.

But its Teddy though so......
Re: Teddy Atlas - were fireman!
Poor Bradley, scrambling to react to what was entirely unexpected, out of place rage. Cringe worthy stuff.

Re: Teddy Atlas - were fireman!
There is a large thread on this on CS. Atlas is a fraud who had benefitted from being Mike Tyson's amateur trainer. He has built this fake tough guy persona built largely from lies.
He is not a good trainer and a rubbish fighter and a fake tough guy. He overacts in the corner with already established fighters to promote himself. Rooney even says, and believably, that Atlas's scar story is fraudulent and teddy did it himself.
This guy has made a career from one lucky association (Tyson) and a load of hot air.

I dont mind him at all, he's knowledgabke and comes across well as a pundit. Still got to question that cornerwork though!

Can't stand the man, I have to watch fights with the sound down when he's commenting.
He thinks he's never wrong, reminds me of a pub bore, he'll say the same thing all the way through a fight, even when the opposite happens he claims he saw it coming.

Firstly, watching cornerwork from the outside looking in is very different from being the man on the stool on the receiving end. Secondly, Yanks lap that stuff up.

Jesus the man's an embarrassment, also a complete nut case. He boasts about stalking one of his ex fighters with a gun, because he thought he'd been unfairly sacked. Loony tunes

Having finally seen it after all the chat i was struck by how much its the ranting tone rather than the message itself that grates. Delivered in a much more sensible, understated, conversational way I thought it would be a decent analogy and one I'd buy into if in the corner myself.Sklar wrote:Firstly, watching cornerwork from the outside looking in is very different from being the man on the stool on the receiving end. Surely not even Atlas would go that low! Interesting Povetkin totally deteriorated under Atlas.Boxing Prospect wrote:I remember something about Povetkin's dead father, magic and winning to bring him back alive O_o

Was again Chagaevw or Huck
Re: Teddy Atlas - we're fireman!
Atlas is laughable, some of his other corner work throughout the fight was over the top. That fight was so easy for Bradley he could have had Mickey Mouse in his corner and it wouldn't have made a difference.

Absolutely correct. Couldn't agree more. Does he believe he's ever been wrong about anything?reggaereggae wrote:There is a large thread on this on CS. Atlas is a fraud who had benefitted from being Mike Tyson's amateur trainer. He has built this fake tough guy persona built largely from lies.

Re: Teddy Atlas - we're fireman!
After reading teddy atlas autobiography I become a fan of his but over the years I have started to think he is all about himself and likes the lime light on him way to much and wants his corner work to be the talk of the after fight party instead of the actual fight or fighter, that fireman pep talk was embarrassing I was cringing watching him, he has now confirmed to me that he is a ego manic who wants all the lime light and attention on him instead of the fighter. I can now see what Kevin Rooney has been saying all these years.

I'm not sure what the big deal is. Cornerman rally's fighter, fighter wins. Corny vocabulary, but so what?

Re: Teddy Atlas - we're fireman!
I'm going to defend Atlas. If you watch the fight, Bradley followed the instructions that were given to him. Teddy lashed him at the end of the first round for throwing big combinations and told him to throw twos and threes - what did Bradley do? Throw twos and threes. Teddy asked him not to throw the left hook on the outside, he stopped. Teddy told him to get his foot on the outside, he got his foot on the outside.
Bradley wasn't far from perfect in Saturday night and looked a hell of a lot better than he did in his last fight. That's down to him and his new coach. Like him or not, he worked.

What a fuggin idiot. I feel sorry for the Russian Translator... Atlas almost ruined Povetkin as a fighter. Hes such a titDixonian wrote:I had to look that up. Re: Teddy Atlas - we're fireman!
Yeah, I used to give Atlas the benefit of the doubt but he really does seem to be a vainglorious buffoon. And you're right, Povetkin deteriorated under his 'tutelage.' But then I suspect this tutelage consisted of well-intended and scattergun sub-Rocky rhetoric, the hot-air from which blew smoke up his own backside, inflating his already oversized ego, leading him to forget why he was there in the first place.reggaereggae wrote:What a fuggin idiot. Poor Teddy. I suspect he left the Povetkin camp ranting incomprehensively about something to do with firefighters and not being scared of fire.
