weight training and boxing

Post by dant52 »

I am 60 years young and the last 3 years my training has strictly been boxing. Prior to the boxing I did many years of weight training. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good combination of the two. My boxing workouts are three one hour sessions and a half hour private session with the owner Peter Manfredo Sr. I want to do some weight training without taking away from the boxing but getting as much as I can out of the two
Thanks

I guess just swap one boxing day for a weights day , I tend to do both I do some bag work then skip then do some resistance machines or free weights , it's not what's recommended but I get bored just doing weights so I like to get heart pumping with boxing before I hit the weights gym .

Don't do bench presses with barbells because they build out the chest.. bench with dumbbells and isolate the triceps straight up with a quarter turn of the wrists... Don't rep to failure and don't strain... When you lose form or speed stop the set... Don't do squats, do the leg press machine.. Don't do dead lifts, do back extensions... Do situps with like a 45lb plate but work up to it... do the obliques machine... use the highbar and get creative with it.

I once seen Wilt Chamberlain do sit ups with a 45lb plate. Wonders never cease.
