RIP Bob Foster

Post by Chuck1052 »

According to a report on Fightnews, Bob Foster, a world light-heavyweight champion during the 1960s and 1970s, has passed away. Foster was generally regarded as an all-time great in the light-heavyweight division and one of the greatest punchers ever.

R.I.P. champ. One of the most devastating punchers in boxing history gave us his last goodbye. A true 100 all-time p4p great.

Another line of the great Muhammad Ali's opponents has passed away: Sonny Liston, Archie Moore, Doug Jones, Floyd Patterson, Henry Cooper, Joe Frazier, Jerry Quarry, Ken Norton, Oscar Bonavena, Jimmy Young, Jimmie Ellis, and Ernie Terrell to name a few.

He will be missed.

Foster had to be one of the most frightening light heavy champs ever.

Tall guy with devastating power and superior reach. Underrated boxing skills.

Who can forget that hook that knocked Mike Quarry senseless, and his destruction of the very tough Dick Tiger?

Foster would have been a handful for any of the outstanding fighters in light heavyweight history.

Forget about his losses to the heavyweights. Bob Foster was simply a P4P all-time great.

Toll the 10 count for another fallen warrior.

That is sad to hear. He was one of the greats. Seemed like a decent guy as well.

Bob often gets overshadowed by his short comings as a heavyweight, but from what I hear he was knocking heavies dead left and right while in training camps... Excellent 175-pounder, one of the best of all time... Whenever I hear people go on about Roy Jones, I always think to myself "If they were in the same era, would Roy of even bothered to fight Foster, Moore, Conn and others?" considering he fought in a relatively weak era in history at the weight. Foster and others were killers.

BoxRec has Bob's full name listed as Robert Lloyd Foster and his DOB as April 27th 1938 but the 'New York Times' give his middle name as Wayne and his DOB as December 15th 1938. Which is correct?
Here is a link to NYT article, scroll about halfway down for the info:

Hopefully boxrec is correct on the DOB, it would be an honour to share a birthday with the Sheriff.
