Moloney Brothers in action Friday

By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing

Former amateur star Jason Moloney (4-0, 4 KOs) will clash unbeaten Markquil Savana (9-0, 3 KOs) of the Philippines over ten rounds with the vacant WBA Oceana super bantamweight title up for grabs at the Malvern Town Hall, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on Friday. In other action, Moloney’s brother, Andrew (4-0, 2 KOs) will take on Aussie champion Robert Lerio (16-22-1, 6 KOs) for the Australian bantamweight crown over ten rounds.

Promoter Peter Maniatis is confident the boxing fans in attendance will be witnessing a great fight night.

“Savana is undefeated 9-0 and I am told is a very talented boxer from General Santos so his fight with Jason Moloney who is also undefeated 4-0 and a rising star of Australian boxing will be worthy of the main event,” said Maniatis.

“The semi-main event for the Australia bantamweight title will see Andrew Moloney 4-0 and former Gold Medalist at the Commonwealth Games fight Filipino Roberto Lerio. The fight with Lerio and Moloney will be very interesting. It’s youth vs experience and Lerio is a very tough experienced boxer who always comes to fight.

Both Moloney twins want to step here and both twins are the future of Australia Boxing. That’s why they are both testing themselves over 10×3 with good opponents in only their fifth professional fight and the father of the Moloney twins, Daryl, is very supportive and helpful in all areas of the Moloney boxing careers.”

“The rest of the card will see both undefeated boxers Jayde Mitchell and Ryan Breese fighting for a WBA Asia super middleweight regional title and also a stacked undercard with Terry Tzouramanis vs Shady Souied and super middleweight Michell Clark vs Joel Bourke.”
