Now that the scam hype of Pacquiao-Mayweather is behind us

Post by actjac »

....and the Klitschko's are through, interest in the traditional glamor division of the heavyweights has taken over.....Joshua, Parker, Tyson and Hughie Fury, Wilder, Usyk and even Rivas, Browne, Glazkov, Helenius are returning focus on the big boys and with matchups between them should continue for years.

My prediction is that the great anticipation will be when Parker and Joshua take on Wilder and Fury and then an ultimate match up should be of most interest since Ali-Foreman,

Some good match ups, some interesting personalities and styles and we will see some genuinely exciting world title bouts.
I'm looking forward to it.

But levels?

Let's not start comparing this crowd to the Ali/Norton/Frasier/Foreman era, please!

...granted, Klitschko era is over and Tyson is the top guy at the moment... why the hell, though, will the matchups between also-rans be all of a sudden so much more exciting than before? :o

Top contenders haven't really fought. They all look to into mandatory using the path of least risistence.

Otherwise we might have seen Fury face Pulev for instance. Yet he got the shot by only beating a shot Chisora.

...there might be more movement in the division but it's not like it's gonna somehow result in the better quality of matchups...Chisoras will remain Chisoras and Pulev will always be Pulev...

Eh...I don't really see what's so much more exciting about the division now. Is Martin-Glazkov really the type of thing that people were looking forward to?

When the good fights start happening consistently I'll get excited.

Chisora is shot? I think you're confusing him with fighters who are shot, like Oleg Maskaev and David Tua. Chisora is 31 years old and was on a pretty respectable streak of beating several top 50 fighters, including Malik Scott, en route to the fight with Fury.

Chisora is unstable and inconsistent, but he isn't shot. He'll probably rise to the point of being a borderline contender again, too.

I can't really slag all the new guys in the heavyweight division for not having fought one another yet though. Up until just now, they were all fighting to try and get a shot at Wladimir Klitschko (or Wilder's WBC belt when that became vacant). They were doing exactly what you'd expect of them in that instance. It isn't like there's some golden era in boxing history when every prospect beat each other up 4 fights into their pro careers.
