Fury should be honoured really? what's Frampton done? probably because he is big in Belfast and he's Barry's mate ;;-)

There was uproar when Tyson Fury got nominated for BBC Sports Personality of the Year; the backlash for an MBE would be absolutely hilarious.

You joke but there's truth in there. Frampton gets in because of his contacts and background. I'd like to think Fury would tell them what to do with an "honour" bestowed by the ruling class to "lesser" people for "doing well"

I don't want to criticise Frampton in any way because someone else in authority will have recommended him for the award, but how can Carl and Gary Nevilles sister get awards like this when there are hundreds of volunteers running youth clubs, boxing clubs , scouts etc for decades with no financial reward and they never get recognised. I could go on all day about this. Why should anyone who gets paid to do a job get awarded for doing that job?
Do bricklayers get an OBE for 30 years service to bricklaying?
I start a rant about this every year and the wife batters me, but I just think it's ridiculous.

Don't let it bother you. The whole honours thing is just a nice reminder of the class divide. Massively outdated.
When I learn of people refusing any honour offered to them by the establishment, my respect for them shoots up.

Of course it isn't always about honouring lesser people, the toffs love giving their own pals an honour or 3 whenever the chance arises. Check out Jacqueline Gold, daughter of David Gold, a man who just happens to donate huge amounts of money to the Tories!

It's the pc awards that infuriate me.

Francis Lee and Denis Law need to wait til pensioner age for their stellar football careers as well as their charity work to be rightly recognized whereas a couple of cloggers from the world of womens football get gongs thrown at them. Jacqui Oatley, a shrieking commentator, with little insight or even understanding of sport was also honoured.

The world's fucked.

Because the likes of Hoy and Holmes would have had sponsors flashing their cash towards the establishment in return for an honour.

personally i don't think anyone should be awarded for doing a job they get paid for, charity work, unpaid work, helping the community that kind of thing deserves an award.

To be fair, the idea of having a professional boxer being introduced into the ring as 'Sir' is a bit ridiculous.

The idea of "honouring" them mid way through their careers is a bit ridiculous too, kind of like when a sportsman brings out an autobiography at the age of 21.

Just shows what a load of bollocks MBEs are, especially at the sportsman/celebrity level.

Athletes only compete for a short space of time, let them finish their careers 1st then decide if its worthy of such honours, its like giving Fergie a knighthood after winning the European cup with Aberdeen or Connery after playing Bond for 1st time

If they've already established themselves as great then I don't see the point in waiting for them to retire.

Alex Ferguson was given a knighthood before he retired and it didn't seem that daft.

I think the jury is out as to whether Frampton is a great fighter, I think it's come very quickly and agree with handsofstone - what if Quigg knocks him out, will they give Quigg a peerage?

Just give him an MBE as well.

I think all of our world champions deserve an MBE.

Knighthoods for sporting achievements are ludicrous.
