Mesmerizing Gem of a fight.....

Post by BoxBuzz »

I'm putting a hyperlink here for a fight that may or may not be that well known.

But it is captivating from beginning to end, never boring, full of unexpected moments, and NEVER dull.

I guarantee you will not be bored.

So with that said, can you follow up with one of your own?

A typical well known example would be Foreman Lyle, but that's so well known, I doubt anyone here has missed it.

So post that one as well if you must, but I'm thinking to share some lesser known fights..... that still meet that excitement level.

I'm thinking this one may be new to you...but maybe not. Anyway....any contribution that you feel would meet the spirit would be welcome.

Great fight. I was there, sitting half way back and relatively sober. Cracking contest.

Wasn't Dorsey's wife a top martial artist? In fact, didn't he say she would beat Mike Tyson in a street fight?

King and Warren had a cosy relationship at the time.

Probably not as thrilling and exciting as the other fights posted to this thread, but I personally see this as a little gem.
Two very good professionals probably past their best, in a fight where, for these guys, everything really is on the line.

I would never question a professional boxers attitude, stepping through those ropes is more than I ever did, but I couldn't help comparing this fight to the great 'event' of May. If that fight was half as good as this it would be considered a classic.

Thanks for that. I wasn't aware of that fight, so I got to watch it in suspense...

I was surprised it was a split decision though. Seems being related to royalty can gain you a few points here and there.

Agreed, I would bet my house that the Judge who scored wrong was on the same side of the ring as the former champ. To be honest, if the bald one was within arms length of me, screaming for 12 rounds I probably would have scored it the same way.

Here's another of my personally favoured gems:

Always felt bad for Liles. He's trying to press his advantage and getting held throughout but the ref does nothing about it. No warnings. Nothing. He gets frustrated and his eagerness gets the better of him.

Would love to see holding and clinching bring about more pts deductions. The worst thing about the sport. Action fighters are unfairly nullified by boxers who can't or won't fight on the inside.

That's why you have to deal with the Ruiz's of this world by using the "Tua Doctrine".

No hugging, until AFTER the fight. lol

You have to deal with the opponent that is in front of you.....David Tua wasn't trying to get inside where he could get all warm and cozy.

Careful what you ask for, cuz if gettin cozy on the inside is where you want it, you just may find yourself in an entanglement that you didn't bargain for.

Sometimes it's best to keep your distance.
