Light the candles for Big George

Post by SenorPipino »

What's this? No one has wished one of history's great heavyweights a happy birthday?

BIG George Foreman turns 67 today.

He hasn't fought in more than 16 years but I have a hunch that Foreman could still hold his own against the sad bunch of heavyweights that populate boxing today.

Tyson Fury vs. George Foreman? The Hayward Hammer would have (and probably still could) destroy this mediocre entity masquerading as heavyweight champion of the world.

Happy B-Day, Big Fella.

Decades ago, I recall the press making a big deal about George celebrating his B-Day on Jan. 22.

I think they confused that date with the day he destroyed Joe Frazier to win the title.

Foreman's birthday is Jan. 10. He won the heavyweight title in Jamaica on Jan. 22.

As the saying goes, "You can look it up."

One of the, if not the, most fascinating figures in boxing history. He above all defied all known logic. What a man, and what a selection of great fights he gave us. A man who would not be denied.
