Sergey Kovalev vs Jean Pascal II /Montreal/Canada - Will Pascal be a better fighter in this rematch ?

Post by apollo creed »

So, it's obvious that this fight/rematch is gonna make good numbers in Canada but will Pascal be a more improved fighter with Roach in his corner and give Kovalev trouble or it's just a money fight for him ?

I can't see a different result.

I'm surprised they've put this on, as the first fight proved that Kovalev was far better.

Pascal was brave as always, but he was out of his depth & it was not a fight that necessarily warranted a quick rematch IMHO.

Kovalev didn't have a better option than this rematch. It sells very well in Canada , so why not. Also Pascal thinks the stoppage from the first fight was premature. :oo

Freddie Roach is talking about this fight and how is gonna help Pascal. https://youtu.be/yiBl_s1SPq4

and this fight is happening why ?

Kovalev slapped Pascals head around like a rag doll . Ridiculous that this fight is happening again .

Kovalev takes him out again in brutal fashion.

Pascal is guaranteed to suffer from pugilistic dementia sooner than later .

People are underestimating Pascal.

Pascal is a very good fighter, a former light heavyweight champion - and he is still in his prime.

I just hope Kovalev is 100% prepared and in his best shape. He should not look past Pascal - he needs to be fully focused and at his best.

I thought that the first fight was stopped prematurely so I agree that Pascal deserves the rematch - and I think that Kovalev will KO him quickly this time.

No, Kovalev continues to improve and that will negate whatever little improvements Roach will have made in Jean if any.

I don't have a problem with the rematch because Pascal is a legit top 10 light heavyweight, and would much rather see Kovalev face him again rather than another Nadjib Mohammedi. However, I don't feel that the result will change. Pascal might have a few good moments early in the fight, but Kovalev should win by another late stoppage.

... if Kovalev takes it seriously I don't see the reason why the result should be any different...

I think that some of you need to go back and watch Kovalev/Pascal if you're complaining about this fight being made. I agree that the fight was stopped prematurely but that Kovalev was winning handedly BUT Pascal put up the best fight against Kovalev than anyone else we've seen the last few years.

Now take into account that Pascal upgraded his corner with Roach. I know that only having one training camp with a new trainer is overrated (Bradley recently) but Roach knows Serge Kovalev VERY well. Pascal now has way more information than he did going into the first fight. Pascal has fast hands and a great chin along with lots of heart. He swung for the fences that first fight and didn't try to fight scientifically like he has the ability to do.

I still think that Kovalev is going to win but I think that it's going to be an absolute gem of a fight. I love that it's been made and will enjoy every second of it.

Well, Pascal was able to land some good punches on Kovalev too. We should not write off Pascal :box:

Yeah, Pascal is a dangerous fighter and if you underestimate him then you gonna have some surprises.

People only see that stoppage and forget that Pascal landed as well some good shots on Kovalev plus I think Pascal will be more cerebral in this rematch.

I find it odd that when Hopkins beat him for the championship that people weren't saying this about him nor giving him (pascal) the same amount of credibility but now that he's facing Kov for the 2nd time people are giving him credit, they even talked about him when he dominated Dawson.

Things that make you go hmmm!

Pascal was widely recognized as a top 10 LHW when Hopkins beat him.

Very odd comment.

I'm expecting Kovalev to be vicious and thorough. Pascal is gonna earn every dollar on fight night, Kovalev has kept improving Pascal has regressed if anything.

Pascal was and is a top 10 heavyweight though, and both of his fights with Hopkins were close and he even knocked Hopkins down twice in the first fight. Also I wouldn't say that Pascal is getting credit for the second Kovalev fight, considering the way the first fight ended as well as the gifted decision he received against Gonzalez. Pascal isn't elite, but I'd be hard pressed to find a better opponent in what is hopefully a tune-up fight before Kovalev-Ward.

I agree completely. Pascal was playing possum in the corner and wait try to land a bomb and it was the completely wrong style to take with this animal because of the damage he had to take on the ropes waiting for his opportunity to swing for the fences. Against a guy like Kovalev and GGG for that matter, it's going to take a guy that is in ridiculous shape and do what Sugar Ray Leonard perfected. Land and move and win the last 10 seconds of every round. Frustrate and make these guys feel uncomfortable enough to leave their own game plans.

No one is going to back them up though. I've heard some trainers say that the way to beat them is to have them fight moving backwards but they are throwing too much lead. Anyone trying to do that is going to get a beating trying it. I think staying away, not running, from trouble and winning and exchange and moving is the only way to do it. Though, Serge has gone down in fights and seems to be more ripe for a KO than GGG ever has been but Pascal tried that and it didn't work.

It's only closer if Kovalev did start his training very late as already stated. Even then he will still find Pascal as he comes forward too so I expect another stoppage.

Most rematches go longer than the original match..... Eg Chavez-Mayweather but there's some anger here. Who knows
