Biggest duck ever? Wilder will likely vacate title, unwilling to fight his mandatory Povetkin
http://www.BS.com/povetkins-pr ... in--100804
Ryabinsky, Povetkin's promoter claims that Wilder will be voluntarily vacating his WBC heavyweight title because he doesn't want to fight Alexander Povetkin, his mandatory challenger.
***This is quite possibly the most ridiculous, pathetic, and sad attempt at heavyweight championship boxing I've ever seen***. Wilder is a fraud. His team are a fraud. It's hard for anyone to defend him after this. As far as I know, he is the first heavyweight titlist in the history of boxing to ever voluntarily vacate a title. Muhammad Ali vacated a title but that was different, he did so for political reasons. Wilder is vacating because his management team is simply unwilling (afraid) to fulfill their mandatory obligation of fighting Alexander Povetkin.
This is sad on so many levels. Shame on Wilder. Shame on Wilder's team. This is the biggest duck I've ever seen in pro boxing. This is 100% dork move.
I actually made a poll on this site, on boxrec.com, about 8 months ago asking in a poll if Wilder would vacate rather than fight Povetkin, and in that thread I pedicted that Wilder would vacate and be unwilling to fight Povetkin. So I'm not surprised
Wilder and his team might as well come out and say: "I can't beat Povetkin, so I'm not willing to take the risk and fight him, so instead I am giving up my belt so that I don't have to fight him and get knocked out."
I think this is the biggest duck in the history of boxing!

It doesn't surprise me any more, he also acted like Povetkin ducked him in januari, while in fact Povetkin gave Wilder the choise to fight Povetkin instead of Hughie/Duhaupas, or fight next year (this year) around april. Wilder chose for the Duhaupas fight, Povetkin moved on to Wach because Wilder wasn't ready and suddenly Wilder says he wanted to fight in januari?! Ofcourse Povetkin reminded him they agreed around april and suddenly Wilder and his team said it was Povetkin who ducked him?! Povetkin and his team still stayed mature after that and kept waiting as the deal said without any trashtalk. And now this, Wilder and his team are by distance the poorest performing heavyweight team as far as I remember.
Re: Biggest duck ever? Wilder will likely vacate title, unwilling to fight his mandatory Povetkin
I'd rather wait until it actually happens before I critisize Wilder.
If this does happen then he deserves all the crap he will get from fans.
All will be revealed in the next few weeks.

It would absolutely not surprise me, but let's just wait & see what happens before starting up a lynch mob.
Re: Biggest duck ever? Wilder will likely vacate title, unwilling to fight his mandatory Povetkin
its ony half of the story. wilder wants to fight povetkin. but raybinski and povetkin say want the fight to happen in russia, wilder doesnt wanna go there. and i wouldnt too. cause russia is known to make stupid descisions or they often they that you take drugs and put you on something, like they are trying with duradula, when he clearly beat kudryashov.

Re: Biggest duck ever? Wilder will likely vacate title, unwilling to fight his mandatory Povetkin
Just after the Wach fight they actually stated that the fight will most likely be in America because Wilder and his team prefered that and Povetkin and his team accepted. Since that moment I haven't heard anything from the Povetkin team that says something else, only some American media wrote such things.Chepppaaa wrote:its ony half of the story. wilder wants to fight povetkin. but raybinski and povetkin say want the fight to happen in russia, wilder doesnt wanna go there. and i wouldnt too. cause russia is known to make stupid descisions or they often they that you take drugs and put you on something, like they are trying with duradula, when he clearly beat kudryashov.

It should be noted that this article was written by a Russian writer that covers boxing for a Russian website and there is zero input from the other negotiating side. Wilders side has never indicated they were at anytime going to not fight Povetkin.

The 3rd word of the story was "Feels" closely followed by "Believes."
So let's stay tuned...

No excuses for Wilder because none are required, he is just trying to start his path to unifying the titles which is why he chose Martin over Povetkin.
Eventually they will face one another, fear has nothing to do with it.

No. He will not be unifying the titles because, according to Povetkin's manager, Wilder will give up his current title. The whole point of unifying titles is to have all the titles at once. Wilder is actually vacating his WBC title and letting it go. This is the opposite of unifying.Undefeated49-0 wrote:No excuses for Wilder because none are required, he is just trying to start his path to unifying the titles which is why he chose Martin over Povetkin.

He will not be unifying. Rather he is quitting one title because he doesnt want to fight the mandatory (Povetkin), and hoping to fight for another.

I didn't realize he was vacating, so he is ducking or is he just simply looking to add another title on his resume??

Who cares? Povetkin is the last fighter that has the right to complain. I fully expected him to vacate, we'll see what happens. Bloggers are often wrong.
Re: Biggest duck ever? Wilder will likely vacate title, unwilling to fight his mandatory Povetkin
IF Wilder vacates the WBC title, and that's still a big IF, then he is another huge disappointment to boxing fans. The WBC should demand either fish or cut bait. Either he signs to fight their MANDATORY now, or the WBC must strip him of the title, something they actually should have done months ago. Then match Povetkin and the WBC's next best heavyweight for the vacant title.
I have to say I wasn't expecting Wilder to fight Povetkin based on his chosen opponents recently.

so the povetkin camp is shit talking about wilder. this is a shocker.
if this was true it would be bad on wilder but until there is an actual
reason to believe this is true, anyone who pisses themselves over it
has serious issues.

Wilder will not duck. He is from Alabama and if he ducked anybody, he couldn't go back home.

This is negotiation, millions of $$ on stake...both sides are not boy scouts. The IBF-WBC unification is a threat against purse bid (and going to Noscow).
Both sides are not telling all the truth...shocker-)))

I'd say Wilder has been ducking everyone good his entire carreer, why now waiting again?verballistic wrote:He showed the second link which was written by American Keith Idec...2 weeks ago.asdfjkl wrote:Keith Idec, a Russian? That's new for me.greg wrote:

The article linked at top of thread WAS written 4 DAYS ago by a Russian named Yuri Tarantin, (who writes for http://allboxing.ru/ )
http://www.BS.com/povetkins-pr ... in--100804
In both articles, it sounds like Povetkin's promoter Ryabinski is 'negotiating' through the media so he may be having 2nd thoughts about having the bout in the US. Let's just let this thing play out before we go making accusations of ducking.

* Leon Spinks vacated a title because he refused to defend against Ken Norton.
* Tyson Fury vacated a title because he refused to defend against Czar Glaskov.
* Michael Spinks vacated a title preferring a defense against Gerry Cooney.
* Riddick Bowe vacated a title choosing a defense of Holyfield over Lewis.

Holmes dropped belts too. Probably at least a dozen examples.
