Why are we falling for the Canelo fraud?
Canelo is the top money man in boxing ... why?
Is he even top 10 most exciting fighter? No.
Is he even top 10 best fighter? No.
Most boxing fans here know this, yet we treat him with the same foolish attention he gets for being a celebrity.
GGG is a legitimate fighter. He earned his way up by being possibly the best combination of excitement and skill.
We watched HBO and Golden Boy artificially manufacture Canelo into a star.
There are a bunch of idiots still talking about 48-1,
but act like the Trout and Lara fights never happened, or were so conclusive we don't need to discuss it.
It's like it was enough that Canelo even stepped in the ring with him.
And now this fool got the nerve to think he can charge us $70 to watch him fight Amir Khan.
Kid ain't earned a Floyd/Berto or Manny/Algieri, but we're giving it to him.
I don't want to seem like I'm hating on the kid, but it irks me that this guy is allowed to "be the man" because HBO and Mexico said so.
This type of thing sets a very bad precedent. The top money man should be legitimate, if not, it embarrasses the sport.

I disagree with us giving it to him, he's earned it! Sure his most dominant competitors has resulted in very close or even controversial decisions which has gone to him but the truth of the matter is that you can hate on him all you want but still be able to see that he is taking on all competitors.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Canelo is the top money man in boxing ... why?

The only thing I'm holding against him (and not really him but rather DLH) is this BS 90-10 deal they offered GGG.
Other than that Canelo has faced a "Who's Who" in boxing and that cannot be disputed.

Re: Why are we falling for the Canelo fraud?
algieri had a current title one division down and berto had held several titles in the same division.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Kid ain't earned a Floyd/Berto or Manny/Algieri, but we're giving it to him.
khan's wins over alexander and collazo were clear but alexander is on the way downhill and collazo
still hurt khan a few times early and khan had problems with diaz and algieri, so i'm not even sure
khan deserves his mandatory at welter, 2 divisions down from canelo. this isn't a floyd/berto or
manny/algieri. this is more like floyd or manny fighting yuriorkis gamboa.
everyone should be saying, "WTH?!?!"
Re: Why are we falling for the Canelo fraud?
He is Mexican and not a flyweight which explains his popularity.
Re: Why are we falling for the Canelo fraud?
I like him.
I like all boxers.
I'm a boxing fan.
I boxed as a kid but didn't have the toughness, skill, dedication, heart, will, etc etc to be a pro boxer so I have utmost respect for them all.

Why no Lara rematch rather than Khan? I know Lara's style won't help sell any PPV but I figure Canelo has a big enough fanbase to sell enough PPV himself and I wouldn't have thought that Khan will be a big factor in selling this.

Because if Haymon puts that bout on then the so called "boxing fans" of today will cry and say how boring Lara is to watch and how he will do nothing but run and then they'll criticize Haymon for his matchmaking.CaptainSpacerod wrote:Why no Lara rematch rather than Khan? maybe because all lara did was run and he is really boring. if lara didn't run like hell from canelo he would get knocked out,Undefeated49-0 wrote:Because if Haymon puts that bout on then the so called "boxing fans" of today will cry and say how boring Lara is to watch and how he will do nothing but run and then they'll criticize Haymon for his matchmaking.CaptainSpacerod wrote:Why no Lara rematch rather than Khan? which is why he spent 90% of that fight running away and only flicking inconsequential jabs on the retreat.

Re: Why are we falling for the Canelo fraud?
You make it sound as though I was agreeing to a rematch, for the record I wasn't. I thought Lara did not do enough to win it, yes he landed the cleaner shots but he showed no ring generalship, his defense wasn't all that and he had absolutely ZERO effective aggression.sucracristo wrote:maybe because all lara did was run and he is really boring. if lara didn't run like hell from canelo he would get knocked out, which is why he spent 90% of that fight running away and only flicking inconsequential jabs on the retreat.
Somehow the rest of the judging criteria gets overlooked but I never overlook it unless the other guy got ktfo, I pay extra special attention to it when the fight is close and so I tend to score close bouts on the entire judging criteria.
The point of this is that though people may say or think Lara is deserving of a rematch, it doesn't mean I want to see it but it still wouldn't be a bad match up in terms of the level of competition each present for one another although it may be a boring one.
Re: Why are we falling for the Canelo fraud?
Maybe it's because I'm a Brit (not Khans biggest fan though) but I like this fight and give Amir respect for taking the step up. I reckon he'll get chinned and sail off into the sunset with his bags of money but regardless of that its a very dangerous fight for him. If Canelo gets the win then he should be fighting GGG within 90 days with GGG being the mandatory. We'll see what his mates at the WBC have to say after Khan but I'm hoping Canelo/GGG get it on later this year. If they don't then the finger of blame can only be pointed at Canelo and Oscar.
Re: Why are we falling for the Canelo fraud?
Completely agree, I hate this catch weight ruling ruining fights. If you have the belt then you should have to defend it at it's stipulated weight limit, not at 155.campfire wrote:What is it a remake of the odd couple the WBC Middleweight title has never been so ridiculed by its last 2 Champion's i'll be glad when a true Middleweight wins it back

Let's first Canelo to prove himself then I will talk about his fraud.

Fvck alvarez. Alvarez fkin sucks.
Re: Why are we falling for the Canelo fraud?
Khan was a big-name/big pay-day/easy-win for Floyd and Manny and they passed it up for garbage matchups like Berto and a 3rd-go-round with Bradley.
Canelo is taking it up, it's there, on a plate.

Love the fire here, BI. That's passion and you make a lot of sense and I'd be in the back of your pickup truck with a "I hate Canelo" sign a few fights ago but the kid won me over. To justify that stance, since he faltered against Lara, he's looked like a different boxer to me. His combinations, power and overall ring generalship is so much improved. He's no longer the kid running around after Floyd throwing wildly into the ropes and missing by 10 feet. He's cutting off the ring just as well as anybody included my boy, GGG.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Canelo is the top money man in boxing ... why?

AND, he's taking tough fights BI. No one wanted to fight Kirkland. In hindsight, it was a beat down. But Kirkland was a killer up to that point and Canelo could have avoided him like everyone else but he took the fight and demolished him. He beat down Cotto and now he's taking on a very tough fight with Khan. He's already doing things that Floyd didn't have the balls to. He wants to be tested and i'll cheer for a guy like that any day of the week.
Re: Why are we falling for the Canelo fraud?
I agree with everything but this comment. Khan pitched an absolute shutout against Collazo. He won every single round in fantastic fashion. I think that you are thinking about when Collazo hurt Thurman with that body shot in their bout. Khan put a clinic on that night. Everything else you said is nails though.sucracristo wrote:algieri had a current title one division down and berto had held several titles in the same division.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Kid ain't earned a Floyd/Berto or Manny/Algieri, but we're giving it to him.

No doubt what so ever..Canelo Top-5 in the world right now. In no particular order: Ward, Krusher, Manny, Gennady Golovikin and Canelo Alverez.
