fightnews: Hatton-Harris is on!

Harris v. Hatton on October 2nd!
By Lisa Scott
Fightnews has learned that the highly anticipated matchup between WBA jr. welterweight champ ‘Vicious’ Vivian Harris and Ricky ‘The Hit Man’ Hatton, has been agreed upon. With only a few minor details remaining, their fight is expected to take place on October 2nd at MEN Arena in Manchester England and will be televised on Showtime. Known as a lethal body puncher, the undefeated Hatton (36-0; 26 KO’s) is a huge box office draw and a hero in his native Manchester. He will face the toughest challenge of his career in Harris (24-1-1; 16 KO’s), a Guyanese born-Brooklyn resident, who won his title against Diosbelys Hurtado in 2002. In recent weeks, Harris has been quite vocal in his desire to face Hatton, going so far as to tell Fightnews “I will stop Hatton within six rounds!”

Fantastic news if it's true, and I think it is.

FW had his back to the wall and had to make the fight - he's probably looking at Ricky's picture on his office wall now, thinking
"Be careful what you wish for..."

Not a fight SN would've taken if they had the choice - good luck to Hatton, he's doing the right thing and taking the plunge.

At least we know Harris is likely to make it over without any last minute pull outs.

While I've never seen Harris fight, I expect him to beat Hatton based on his reported style and power.

I've only seen Harris the once against Urkal, and whilst he looked very handy I give Hatton every chance of beating him (maybe 60/40 in my opinion), which is exactly why I and most others on this forum and others are so fed up with most of Ricky's opponents up to this point. It's because we feel he can compete with this calibre of opposition.

It's really looking like Hatton has forced Warren's hand if the fight becomes reality. A certain Welsh Super-Middleweight might want to take note....

However this is my last post on Harris-Hatton until I see it officially announced.

But put it like this, if it IS announced I will probably be arranging to meet some of you at the fight for pint, and Goz doesn't get out much these days :o

What do you think the odds would be on a Harris KO? I'd say somewhere around 4/1.

I wonder what injury/sickness/illness (delete as appropriate) Harris will go down with 4 days before the fight...?

Until I see it announced on allegedly.tv, I do not believe it is made yet. If Warren makes this fight, he will be keen to tell all concerned 'I told you so,' that includes the press and Ricky.

Yeah, and then all we have to wait for is to see if the fight stays made.

It's become predictably 2 phased:

1) Is the fight agreed.
2) Is the agreed fight actually going to materialise.

After recent event, I don't think Frank will start gloating until the fighter lands in the UK, is sitting at the press conference smiling and no-one is doing any more sparring.

I guess Vann will have to settle for being one of the ringside judges, then. ;)

Question: which of Hatton's WBU title fights has Vann not been involved with as either referee or judge?

So Vann has only refereed/judged 13 of 14 of Hatton's WBU title fights? How dare people refer to him as Ricky's "personal ref?" :D

So what happened in the Phillips fight - was Mickey suffering from terrible dysentery? Or an outbreak of shingles, perhaps?

Very happen, Hatton, Graham, and Warren said 2004 would be the breakthrough year. Well, its looking a lot rosey now.

I got some flak here for given The team some slack over the last fight, I feel a little more justified now.
