My Mayweather Prediction

Post by DrunkenBoxer »

I am not sure if anyone else has said this but...

I predict Mayweather will return for one more fight when someone in the welterweight division is truly recognized as #1, possibly by unification and distinguishes themselves as the top dog like Mayweather once was. Mayweather will challenge him to try prove he is still the best one more time and also collect a big pay check, then retire for good.

Doesn't sound like Mayweather's style, but maybe.

It's exactly his style, he's always went after the Lineal Titleholder, though they weren't always unification bouts. As we all know, most Lineal Titleholders are often considered the man to beat in the division or the sole Champ whereas everyone else are simply beltholders.

He is hinting at returning, when he got those new shorts he was saying he'd wear them in a rematch with Manny for the 50th, I suspect a huge payday like that or a mega-fight with whoever the Man is at WW will be the only lures that would bring him back.

That is not his style at all because his last fight was against Andre Berto. Floyd is a cherry picker. He does not want GGG at 154 although he said the other day he would beat GGG easily. I would like to see that. He could fight Kell Brook who is the best WW in the world but he does not want that. I would suspect that he is coming back and he will pick out the weakest champ at 147 who he knows he can beat. Right now I think he would pick Danny Garcia. That would be easy work for Floyd. Easy pickins. That is what Floyd likes. Just like when he fought Guerrero, Victor Ortiz, Andre Berto, Baldomit, Gatti coming up in weight, JMM coming up two weight classes. Floyd is a clown if he wants to come back he should challenge Brook or come back against GGG at 154 because he said GGG would be easy this week.

Gatti wasn't coming up in weight, Gatti had been at 140 pounds a few years before Floyd had been, and was the defending Titleholder coming into that fight.

I didn't know that.

I still don't know that

In fact I'd go as far as to say, I'm pretty much of the opinion that that is the opposite of what I know

The lineal title is no less an ABC trinket than any other title holder these days.

Lineal means jack these days. You are absolutely correct. Stevenson is lineal right now. Who cares. Exactly your point.

Floyd wants nothing to do with Spence, he wants nothing to do with GGG and probably nothing to do with both Kahn and Brook. Floyd likes slow guys. You look at his list of wins and you will see a lot of slow and plodding guys. Basic footwork. That is what he would be looking for.

Manny is beyond damaged good for Floyd. His recent comments put him out of having any rematch with Floyd. Floyd would not touch that guy with a ten foot pole. In fact his fight with Bradley Jr. is going to take a major hit in PPV buys. Manny has lost tens of millions with what he just did.

I would not be totally shocked if his fight with Bradley were not postponed or canceled. I feel there is an outside shot of that happening. HBO has to do serious damage control here. Not sure if it is worth it for them.

Do you not think FM could use the Manny-gate scandal as a way to increase the hype for a rematch?

It wouldn't surprise me

Honestly not bothered by a Pacquiao rematch, both past their primes.

Lost so much respect for Mayweather after the Berto debacle.. he had a pick of numerous decent fighters and chose him!.. don't care how much money the guy's earned, from a legacy point of view he will never be considered in many people's top 20 or 30 P4P great unless he comes back and finishes with a real test. IMO that would only be Golovkin at 154. If not him at the very least he should fight one of the unbeaten Welter weights (Thurman, Garcia, Brook, Spence). There is a good chance Brook v Spence will be mandated in the future after Bizier and a voluntary for Brook in the summer, if that fight was to happen in the winter would like to see Mayweather come back and fight the winner of that next May if he won't fight Golovkin. Very unlikely but he'll never be close to the TBE unless he finishes his career with a defining victory.

My Mayweather prediction is he stays retired. He's fast becoming forgotten about and as time passes he'll be remembered as a cherry picker who fought the likes of Berto and got on his bike. File him somewhere above Bernard Hopkins. Unfortunately for Floyd's legacy only his antics were memorable and not his career (post Hatton). Good riddance :TU:

Mayweather will come back, just to get to 50-0 however, it's not going to be against some young hungry lion at the top of the pile.

I really think that Floyd is done for good and it all comes down to that mysterious IV he had administered the night before the fight with Manny. He'll have too many eyes on him now since his cleanliness has been seriously called into question. He's 39 years old. There's no way he could continue to fight on this level without PEDS. Let's be serious and cut the comedy. At this weight? at this age? There's no mystery to it. It's good down home Pharmaceuticals in the US of A. It's physically impossible without some kind of illegal assistance to do what he's done.

There's no way Floyd peaks his head out of the sand again and gets caught with the smack. He's done. The Floyd fans can continue to praise him like he's Ali and the rest of us smart people will give the credit to the real hero of Floyd's career, some Scientist in a lab.

Still on that IV nonsense, huh?

Mayweather has been completely vindicated by all the authoritative bodies involved.

NSAC and USADA have both signed off on what happened and assured folks no cheating occurred.

A USADA collection official RIGHT THERE IN THE ROOM and you still refuse to understand how
this made everything on the level, with samples collected before, during, and after the hydration.

I explained to you in another thread how the ABP (Athlete Biological Passport) would have exposed
a cheating attempt by now, but you can believe what you like- or tell WADA to get involved,
as they should have by now if anything looked fishy in relation to Mayweather's ABP.

But we do agree in the belief Floyd will stay retired.

49-0 is somehow more iconic in many folks mind than 50-0, or 51-0-1.

Floyd knows this.

Everytime someone mentions Marciano's mark, they will also mentions Floyd's.
And how he was great for much longer and over better competition than Rocky.

It will take a crapload of money (read: a guarantee equal to or higher than the Pac fight)
to even have Floyd think about signing another contract, and there just isn't ANY fighter
out there right now to support such a guarantee, even Manny (unless he does something
crazy to Tim Bradley to fool PacTards into believing he'd have a real chance in the rematch).

Indeed. I think he could fight at middleweight without mysterious saline solutions, I can't imagine his weight ever really gets beyond 170ish when he's out of training, so losing 10lb and getting in decent enough shape to make 160 isn't such a big ask. I'd imagine only Golovkin or Canelo appeal at that weight range though and i don't think $1billion would be enough money.

Possibly even 154, but no way is this 40 year old man with no reason to fight again, coming back to kill himself to make welterweight again, amid controversy of illegal IV drips just to rehydrate after some intense draining.

You really have to laugh at his fans who actually think getting to 50-0 is enough reason for Floyd to get out of bed even once, never mind for 3 months. If the guy gave the slightest rats ass about 'legacy' his career would look nothing like the underwhelming resume & performances he accumulated over the last 10 years.

It seems like on of those obvious scripts you see coming in films.

Pac will beat Bradley again and retire like he said he would.

Floyd/Pac will leave it (for as log as they can without bursting) and both come out or 'retirement' because the 'public demand it' and off we go again. Pac needs the money, Arum wants his money and Floyd loves the money.

On second thought, I didn't consider Mayweather making weight at 147 so if he does return it would likely be at super welter or middleweight.

Also, I'd rather see Teddy Atlas and Freddy Roach fight each other in the ring than Paq and Bradley fight again.

Only an idiot would believe that Floyd has been forgotten, everyday there is mention of him either here on BoxRec or in the media elsewhere, bitterness because he spanked your Hero will not change the fact that he is a future HOFer, Undefeated and without a doubt one of the Best Ever.

He will probably rematch the little Lying A$$ Manny Pacquiao because it's just a money fight at this point, everyone who has a good eye knows that Floyd will beat him again and given Mayweather's track record in rematches we know he will do it even easier the second time around.

Pacman is not going to get him out of retirement. There is no way that fight happens. The public does not want it at all and Manny is damaged goods and far past his prime of 2008-2009. The fight I could see Floyd taking is Garcia. I would favor him in the fight and I think he wins quite easily. 8 rounds to 4 or so. Floyd knows he would win he can make 147 easy. Just a matter of if he wants it or needs it.
