I've got to be honest I've never really watched this guy until today and I've watched pretty much all the YouTube vids. The guy looks absolutely amazing! I know he's old but I could see him being top dog in the division. What does everyone else think?

I don't know where the hell he has been or what he has been doing all this time. He is the business. Skills to burn, power, moves, size, everything. Could have wiped out Wladimir years ago and saved us a decade of pain. WHY LUIS WHY????

Yeah he's a great boxer. I posted my top 10 heavweight's a while ago and had Ortiz at 4 for which I got criticism for having him higher than Wilder.

Think he looks one of the few heavyweights in recent years who has genuine power coupled with good technique, he's also still quite quick considering he's 36.

He didn't defect until 2009 and that was primarily due to his daughter needing serious medical attention which she was getting in Cuba. Along with his suspension for Nandrolene it has stalled his career somewhat. Excited seeing him in against Thompson, hoping he can follow up the Jennings win with stoppage over TT. I would then like him in with the winner of Chagaev/ Browne although it's not clear yet whether he still is mandated to fight Ustinov (he apparently "was not contactable" by WBA when they tried to speak to him about arranging fight for March as part of their WBA Tournament).

Just watched some clips, not seen him until now.

What a shame he's just coming to prominence at 36 -he really looks the whole package, fluid, well balanced, seems to have genuine power, great combinations and footwork, very quick for a big man, and has a very good variety of shots, including a cultured body attack.

Can't remember the last heavyweight I saw who fought like that, he fights like a middleweight. If that makes any sense. He doesn't fight like he's aware of his size.

Been in USA think 2009, unlike Solis, Gonzalez, Barthelemy amongst others think he is past that stage, 36 with family, willing to fight anyone.

Really rate him, by all accounts DLH is planning to have him on the Khan Alvarez undercard assuming he beats TT in March.

I've seen him a few times. He's an absolute beast but he's old, and he's failed a drugs test too so bit of a question mark there.

Right now i think he has the ability to beat any heavyweight, including the champions Wilder, Fury & champ in waiting, Joshua.

I think it could be a case of Stiverne though.... he looked like an absolute beast vs Arreola, but left it so late in the day he was completely shot by his next fight.

I don't think it was so much that he was shot as it was that he wasn't actually that good in the first place. Prior to Arreola he was stopped by a journeyman, held to a draw by a journeyman, and schooled for almost 10 rounds by 40 year old Ray Austin.

He looks very good but I do think he's getting overrated and overhyped because of the Jennings KO. I can't see him beating any of Wlad, Povetkin, Fury or Haye who are imo the divisions top 4. I think he'd beat Wilder though.

I concur with everyone else. He's a very skilled operator and it's a shame that he's probably only got a few good years left in him to get those fights which is gonna be tough because he's very high risk and low reward.

He was but let's be honest, how many of the top heavyweights do you think are really clean? Guys like Fury I can believe but people like Joshua, Povetkin (You seen the size of the traps on that fornicator these days?!) and there's other's I could mention aswell. Even Parker looks a little suspicious to me.

He was busted no doubt and there's no excuses for that but he's now doing VADA year round testing.

He turned pro in 2010 that was about 5 years too late closer to 40 then 30 I know we'v had fighters over 40 or in their late 30's win world titles but no where near fighters that are more like 30 or in their late 20's after say 100 amateur fights if you don't by then how to fight then you should get another hobby

His performance against Jennings is better than anything Wilder has done.

Considering Wilder struggled v Spzilkas southpaw stance Im confident Ortiz would destroy him.
