Quigg v Frampton has arrived!

Post by Tanzio »

I looked for another thread on this but found no recent ones.

I am fired up for this fight. I think that it could turn into a Pac v JMM style rivalry. It really could go either way and it seems to be setting up to be a 12 round war.

What is everyone's take, just four days out?

Quigg by early KO.

If it goes the distance I'd pick Frampton but I think Quigg is going to start strong and maybe KO Frampton in the first 4 rounds. He's got a lot of power, aggression and in recent fights has started like a beast.

If it goes past 4 though, I think Frampton will do it.

I think this will be quite an easy fight for frampton. quigg is way overatted and will get outboxed and stopped late. :bag:

Quigg has certainly performed more solidly than Frampton recently. 2 years ago I'd have been all in on Frampton.
The build up and all the needle suggests this one could be a bit of a war. I fancy Frampton to score a late stoppage.

I think Frampton is the more talented guy. More of a thinker in the ring, faster hands, quicker feet and better mobility (Quigg seems very robotic in the way he moves to me not too dissimilar to Joshua), better punch selection, etc. I would have picked Frampton for sure in the past, that said, I have a strong feeling now that Quigg might have his number and stop him in the mid rounds.

I guess there are threads in the British forum for this. Current scene is too busy squabbling over more important issues such as homophobia in christianity, and how Dick Tiger would do against Golovkin if he hadn't been deceased for decades...

Anyway i was really big on Frampton for duration of this rivalry but after his last performance i have doubts.

Still going to go with Frampton, but this fight has lost a lottle of its shine as i don't think either guy is as good as i once believed. Can't wait :yay:

I've chosen Frampton in the PTBF. I am anything but comfortable with the pick. The initial posts in this thread are pretty much representative of the way I am swaying back and forth between them. But, I will stick with the odds here.

It has been an exciting buildup to this fight in the United Kingdom. The two camps have been playing headgames with one another including the boxers themselves. The British and Irish forum is far more fired up about it then around here. You can feel the tension / energy building towards Saturday.

I'm a tad envious.

The fighters' stories are interesting. Quigg, if robotic as some suggest, has been honing his aggressive style with total dedication. Most agree that Frampton is the more complete package of gifts and skill.

It is a miniature version of Ali v Frazier I. A lot of us have been anticipating this fight for years now. Here it is.

Quigg needs war, and has been doing his best to get into Frampton's head, though that might backfire. I still think that Frampton squeezes by with an SD, made close by an early and late KD.

It will likely be controversial in the UK.

But, I don't have a crystal ball.

It is interesting that a far higher % of voters are picking Frampton on here than they are on a similar thread on Brits & Shamrocks.

Is it because they know more, or are they too close to it to see it clearly?

I'm looking forward to this fight it's a good match up.
I know a bit more about Frampton than I do Quigg but I'm certainly not underestimating Scott for a second.
Hopefully it lives up to the high expectations.

Frampton has that distance on his good straight punch arsenal he mixes in flurries. He also has more subtle body work.
Image

Being able to fight from distance effectively is a massive strategical advantage for Frampton.
Image

Look at that fine tuning footwork...how quick and precise he sets his feet for the quick shoulder pop combo...
Image

Frampton could box this one from the outside and time short attacks in combo on the inside.
Image

But i'm pretty sure he won't use the safe and almost sure gameplan... I think he will go inside the pocket and trade with Quigg which could be his downfall from what we saw vs Gonzalez.

Quigg is more of a grinder... likes and most effective when grinding in hook combos.
Image

He also has that one shot liver KO weapon
Image

That hook is also pretty effective to the head.
Image

I really like his counter uppercut and grinding uppercut on the inside. The straight is pretty effective also but it's mostly short range.
Image

He does seem to have a little more pop particularly to the liver.
Image

I think we're in for a very good fight because both fighters are proud and hungry. But i really think if Frampton loses this one, it will be because he have not been able to follow a winning gameplan. He has all the stylistic tools to make it easy and win this one decisively. Frampton has distance fighting tool and Quigg is mainly only effective if you give him the pocket... How long can Frampton resist the urge to go in there and trade with Quigg... That's pretty much what will dictate the winner. Both have been down before so everything is possible. Great fight. But again if Frampton is well prepared mentally and physically, i think he has the tool to even dominate if the execution is perfect

Thanks for that, Beast. If people can't get excited about two young undefeated champions with the pride and passion to put it all on the line to prove who is better, they should stick to beach volleyball.

Team Quigg has been trying hard to goad Frampton off his game. In front of the roaring crowd on Saturday, Frampton's ability to stick to the tactics of a winning strategy will be sorely tested.

Frampton's key, as I believe the beast highlighted above, is making a constant series of adjustments with his feet, triggering attacks from Quigg to make them fall short and counter, or springing in and out quickly when he wants to take the lead. this is an aspect of his game that Quigg- who is much more heavyfooted and needs to set his feet to punch- simply can't match.

The question is really how long Frampton can use that superior footwork without overcomitting on the inside... and how long can he resist the urge to please his fans and make statement attacks...

Historically he has spent almost no time stationary on the inside

I'll try my best. Here goes:

First, if you haven't yet, watch the Quigg-Otake fight.

Before that bout, I -- like many others apparently still do -- viewed Quigg as a fairly
one-dimensional power fighter. I also thought he was a bit of a dummy because
of the way he talks. He's not, he's very smart in the ring -- and he listens.

Say what you want about Otake, but he's a legit contender, a fight Shingo Wake's
people have avoided like the plague. Anyway, Quigg did a lot of little technical
things in the Otake fight that I didn't know he could do. Whether because he
was wary of Otake early on, or because Quigg broke his hand on Otake's head, or
just knew he wouldn't be able to stop teak-tough Otake, Quigg displayed an impressive
array of skills in that fight.

Quigg also seems to be steadily improving, and I'd give him the motivational
edge (the pure will to win) over Frampton.

Ok sure, I cant watch it right now, what exactly do you mean though? You talking about, does he counterpunch better than you thought, or footwork and head movement better than you thought, or subtle punch variety you didn't know he had, or what?

The boys are having a right old bitch about who gets to use the main dressing room too.

Apparently one dressing room is bigger than the others and both Quigg and Frampton want it and won't back down on the matter.

Easy fixed boys. Nobody gets it. You both get to use the small rooms and quit with the moaning.
