Broner vs Theophane

Post by tigermoth87 »

Has there been a worse defence than this in recent years?

People give Wilder stick but at least Molina, Duhaupas and Szpilka are lurking around the top 20 and fringe world level of the division. Theophane isn't even a top 50 fighter.

I guess Smith vs Kilrain Kelly gives it a run for it's money in terms of shit defences; but at least even that can be excused with Smith still pretty much being a prospect and not being ready for the elite of the division yet.

I dismissed the rumours of this happening as bullshit. I thought surely NOBODY in their right mind will think Theophane is a satisfactory title defence but low and behold, the fight has actually been made.

It's a poor defence but in Broner you have a poor champion. He was given a title shot after losing widely to Porter.

And this is for the "super" title too? Sigh more WBA nonsense.

Poor defence. Theophane isn't anywhere near the level of Gavin Rees who Broner handled easily enough a few years ago. Backwards step for Broner but he's a total helmet so who gives a feck! Think he just wants to beat one of Floyds fighter as if to say 'look at me Floyd', like a kid doing keepy ups trying desperately to impress his dad! He'd probably sook a fart right out Mayweathers anus if he was told to!

The only thing that I feel Theophane might bring to the table that Rees didn't is geniune size. Rees could probably have made Super Feather and I do not feel Broner is a true Light Welter.

Its a poor poor match up, but as noted Broner is in a regrouping stage and probably needs a couple of easy ones, just as Smith did vs Kelly.

Why is it Theophane doesn't seem to have many fans on here?

Im not sure if its that people don't like him or there are just being realistic... He was always the 1st in the gym and the last one to leave is he anyway even near Boner Class imo NO, Theophane has done great for him self getting this fight, he's traveled around gyms after gym for years getting peanuts for some of his fights.

That's a bit of a mismatch but, to be fair, it's not a title defence is it? Unless I'm mistaken? But yeah it's a poor match up

Yeah i think your right, I just hope Theophane does himself justice in there. Broner is possibly the most dislikeable boxer i've seen in quite a few years.

Me too, Benny - I like Theopane, he's a decent fighter and hope he turns Broner over.

Nice insight. Theopane had a little Indian Summer going on and I expect him to be in 12 round shape. A banana skin if Broner isn't ready.
I thought Broner was a Floyd "buddy" and Theopane was a long time member of Floyd's gym, so a touch surprised by the match.
I don't count Theopane out just yet, this is boxing.

No, you are right its not a title defence, which is crazy.

Copious ammounts of diazepan is the only way i can comprehend that Lee Haskins is a world champion but Rigondeaux is not.

Why doesnt he have many fans on here.
Personal opinion because he hasnt fought in uk for 4-5 years and when he did he wasnt really ripping up trees. Then he went off to the US and fought some rather uninspiring opposition on a rather irregular basis (2 a year-ish on undercards).

I'll be honest, might just be me. But from outside looking in it seems he loves being part of the TMT crew, the Mayweather journey. One of the boys. Like a film extra who ends up best mates with Johnny Depp or the substitute goalie who never plays but loves lifting the trophy.

On the other hand he did push Danny Garcia close.... Done nothing for the 6 years after mind

Still love it if he beat Broner

It's for the World Title and Theophane is capable of a win, he has to be at his very best and Broner not at his.
