This subforum seems to be close to death
Its a shame .....just about every poster in here at the present is adding a great deal to the boxing history forum when they do post.......but there just arent enough of us .
It seems now u come back day after day and there have only been 3-4 posts in the previous 24 hours

It's been like this for a long while.
Re: This subforum seems to be close to death
After a few years of mainly only reading the British forum and Current scene forum, I took a keen interest in here for a while. But as you said there's so little chat I've found coming in less and less.
Plus I'm getting some of my old fight fix in Horses 52 week challenge in the British forum.

Personally I don't visit BH much as I find that some of the posters here get a bit to protective over certain boxers , if anyone dares suggest that say greb might not ko every light heavy weight you end up getting insulted. Shame really I used to love reading about old fighters
Re: This subforum seems to be close to death
Greb wouldn't KO most of the greats. He wasn't a huge puncher. He'd beat a great deal of them yeah, but I doubt he KO's all that manystevedoc wrote:Personally I don't visit BH much as I find that some of the posters here get a bit to protective over certain boxers , if anyone dares suggest that say greb might not ko every light heavy weight you end up getting insulted. Im not a doctor, but my guess is the demographics have been slowly dying off one by one,
that and probably a number have become addicted to on-line porn too (if not both).

Re: This subforum seems to be close to death
I think everyone knows one another's views by now. Also...
People round on other posters and there's no interest or tolerance of anyone with something new to say.
I've loved this forum and have a lot of time for 90% of the posters. But eventually we've all run out of things to say.

I once criticized Jack Dempsey's technique and people wanted my head for it...it was getting into stuff like 'you don't know anything!!'.
Re: This subforum seems to be close to death
I would also add, when I came on here fully admitting I had a lack of knowledge of boxing history (I still confess to knowing far less than I'd like and regularly bow to the superior knowledge of others) I was often made an arse of by some posters. Sometimes people don't know it all and you have to give them some slack.
If someone is kidding on the know it all (see cheepppaa on the current scene) and actually regularly talks pish (as above) then call them on it.
But if someone admits they came here for the sole purpose of seeking knowledge and learning about something that should be welcomed not mocked and made to look like an idiot.
Then again, if they come on and say something like "Julio Cesar Chavez vs Pernell Whitaker, gee that's a match up I'd like to have seen." Then I suppose they're fair game.

I agree completely and when I've brought up that greb wasn't a big puncher I've been told I no nothinggilgamesh wrote:Greb wouldn't KO most of the greats. He wasn't a huge puncher. He was aggressive as all hell, and to my understanding was a tireless windmill of a pressure fighter, but the numbers on his record do not indicate he was a big KO puncher.stevedoc wrote:I agree completely and when I've brought up that greb wasn't a big puncher I've been told I no nothinggilgamesh wrote:Greb wouldn't KO most of the greats. All that time away from the forum and you still haven't learned a thing about boxing!

Re: This subforum seems to be close to death
It's tough to get a good conversation going. If you start a thread saying Tyson sucks or Tyson is the best or anything about the Klitschkos there will be a lot of responses. However there is little interesting dialogue.
Occasionally I start a thread, trying to get some good dialogue going but I knowing that there probably won't be much interest in it.
A few weeks ago I started one about the book "In This Corner". I said that I would tell people what any of the fighters in the book said in his own words. Only a few people took me up on it. It's on page 2 now if anyone is interested.
I think overall we have a bad combination of some people are jerks and/or aren't knowledgeable.
Reasonable people often get outshouted and interesting threads often get hijacked.

I learn more and more about Boxing all the time. I didn't say Greb absolutely had no punching power. The guy has 48 knockouts after all so it's not like he couldn't crack an egg, but he has 107 wins so that's less than a 50% KO ratio which means by any logical definition he's not what one would call a big puncher.Tomasino wrote:gilgamesh wrote:He was aggressive as all hell, and to my understanding was a tireless windmill of a pressure fighter, but the numbers on his record do not indicate he was a big KO puncher.stevedoc wrote:

I've only talked to 2 people on the internet that I would say definitely know more about Boxing than me, and maybe a dozen or so whose knowledge of the sport matches mine. Most are playing catch up, and always will be.

The 'classic fights I have watched recently' and 'post your scorecards' threads have been going pretty strong.

I was kidding! Talk about a defensive response
The worst thing about this side of the forum is people take themselves so seriously.
Re: This subforum seems to be close to death
I don't take myself too seriously, but I know that Boxing is one of the few things on this Earth I know just about as well as anybody. So yeah I do take my Boxing knowledge seriously.

I'm glad to hear it. A sense of humour would also be useful
Re: This subforum seems to be close to death
The thing is ....right now there is a "classical" boxing forum elsewhere thriving with hundreds of knowledgable posters ,consistently innovative threads etc....its absolutely on fire .why has tgere been a slump here to almost a total silence?Ezzard wrote:I think everyone knows one another's views by now. I loved his opinions. And whether I agreed or not, I always got a kick out his delivery. But when you go after people personally, it gets the attention of those who pine for civility.
Odd when you think about it, since we are all fight fans, but we get a bit bent if anyone gets froggy with their keyboar
Not to worry, I single handedly straightened out the Greb aficionado by informing him in no uncertain terms that Monzon was his master.
Since then there has been clarity and understanding on this subject.
Also.....Archie Moore=Good
Aaron Pryor=Not so good.
Now that you have been duly trained on the basics, you are free to roam about the forum.

.
Yeah... The understanding that no overrated woman beater who ducked his top contender for 3 years and feasted on the corpses of smaller shot fighters would ever beat Greb.
But he could probably beat Basilio if that makes you feel better.

Yeah, I think it was the level of intolerence that had surfaced here around late 2013 of some new posters atitudes toward other some older posters.
(mainly Il Duece)
calling him a senile old fart,a racist ,as well as being a gay as well as a self hating homophobe from what I remember because they didnt or most likely incaple of agreeing with him on anything.
and other then those certain new posters simply countering a viewpoint of his with facts they may have had concerning the matter (and listing the sources and hyperlinks to them if possible)
they DEMANDED in almost insane rantings that the certain posters be in George Orwell's words "Vapourized"
(without any warning or even a threat of suspension or even an examination of facts.
