Canelo fans, chew on this...
Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is not a real middleweight champ because he has never fought at the middleweight weight limit. Yup and Fact. Ooops.

Wow thanks for the clarification.DrunkenBoxer wrote:Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is not a real middleweight champ because he has never fought at the middleweight weight limit. Yup and Fact. Ooops.
Like we couldn't figure out that he won the belt at a catchweight. I know the other 864 threads about this never sunk in for any of us.
So thanks for finally bringing this to our attention

And like the previous 864 threads, the OP is wrong.

How so? I know, of course, that you can come in lighter than the limit should you wish and still compete at that weight. Though having your opponents contractually obliged to weigh under the limit or you won't allow them to fight for the title sort of makes the idea of that title being a legitimate title in that division (and of course the bloke wearing it) rather fraudulent, doesn't it?expe wrote:tiny_acres wrote:Wow thanks for the clarification.DrunkenBoxer wrote:Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is not a real middleweight champ because he has never fought at the middleweight weight limit. ^Spot on.
That comment certainly will get the Canelo nut huggers in a tizzy.

Middleweight is anything above 11st to 11st 6, as long as he weighs somewhere in that range he's fighting as a middleweight. They can still fight for the title whether they make the catchweight or not, WBC have confirmed that the catchweight is nothing to do with them and no one's going to say that anyone that beats Alvarez isn't lineal champion if they come in above the catchweight, as long as they make 11st 6.Lenny Cravats wrote:How so? In Alvarez's case he beat Cotto for the title and both of them wanted the catchweight, then Khan specifically requested the fight take place at 11st 1, so he can't really be accused of forcing anyone to drain down to fight him, all he's doing is fighting for a world title at a catchweight, which has been going on for well over a century at this stage.
Re: Canelo fans, chew on this...
The bottom line is that no MW title fight should be at anything less than 160 pounds. Kellerman tried to make a counter argument to this and Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins set his ass straight. This 155 shit is nothing more than the erosion of boxing and is making a joke out of the sport.
Re: Canelo fans, chew on this...
You can come in at whatever weight you want as long as it's 160 or under, forcing your opponent in at a specific, contracted weight is a catchweight
Re: Canelo fans, chew on this...
Good give up the title then. Sounds great.Pureist wrote:You can come in at whatever weight you want as long as it's 160 or under, forcing your opponent in at a specific, contracted weight is a catchweight

It's 160 and under.DrunkenBoxer wrote:Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is not a real middleweight champ because he has never fought at the middleweight weight limit. Yup and Fact. Ooops.
Technically, a fighter weighing 140 can fight the middleweight champ weighing 159 and if the 140 lb guy wins, he is middleweight champ.
Re: Canelo fans, chew on this...
catch weights as such are weird in
an age of two hundred seven weight
classes.

It's not "and under". It's 160 "weight limit".
Canelo's catchweight impose a limit below 160, therefore he's never had a middleweight fight, i.e, a fight fought in the parameters of the middleweight limit.
Re: Canelo fans, chew on this...
By limit, they are saying "160 is the MOST you can weigh to win this belt". Nothing to do with the LEAST you can be.Ricky_ wrote:koolkc107 wrote:It's 160 and under.DrunkenBoxer wrote:Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is not a real middleweight champ because he has never fought at the middleweight weight limit. Canelo's catchweight impose a limit below 160, therefore he's never had a middleweight fight, i.e, a fight fought in the parameters of the middleweight limit.
For example, Henry Armstrong weighed 133 when he won the welterweight title from Barney Ross.
Pacquiao forced a 147 lb champion Cotto, to fight at 145.
Canelo holding a belt and insisting on a weight below the limit is nothing new
and folks need to stop acting like he is asking for something that has never been asked before.
Hell, lil g wanted a catchweight with Ward at 164, right?
It is OK for him to ask Andre to shed 4 pounds but he can't do it for Canelo?
Who is really the hypocrite there?
Re: Canelo fans, chew on this...
Blah blah blah. Nobody asked for a rant. 160 "limit". Doesn't require an honours degree.

Wonder what someone like Jake La Motta thinks of Canelo.

No idea what state it is in. But since YOU do, then I figure you must be the sucker paying her mortgage and car note, you sprung mofo.Ricky_ wrote:koolkc107 wrote: And nude pics of your wife, don't forget those...she sure hasn't.

Glad your wife is a cheaper date. One happy meal and I'm straight for unlimited poses and "re-takes".
More than even trade if you ask me.
Re: Canelo fans, chew on this...
If only Canelo had the same hostility and vigor you two guys have, we might get a real middleweight fight. Boxing is better with Canelo flat on his back.

I have zero real hostility towards Pretty Ricky.SFW wrote:If only Canelo had the same hostility and vigor you two guys have, we might get a real middleweight fight. Boxing is better with Canelo flat on his back.
I just enjoy slapping him around sometimes.

Utterly tragic banter.
