Liam Williams Card

Post by Stuarty »

Was there not supposed to be a card this Saturday on BN? I noticed the other day Williams opponent had pulled out but now there's no show scheduled at all? Have to say I'm getting a bit pissed off with BN lately.

Chuffing hell, if true that is diabolical, off the top of my head that would be the 4th domestic show of 2016 cancelled and we are still in March !!!

Sky are actually showing A LOT more domestic boxing than 'the home of boxing'. I saw a recent ifilm interview with Eddie where he said he dominates as a promoter in this country because the competition is so bad. I want BN to succeed but these days fwank is proving Eddie right. It certainly doesn't seem like it takes much to cancel a domestic show these days.

They've had a shooting at the weigh in cancel a show, then tendonitis and a snapped achilles have forced them to postpone another two. What do you expect them to do?

Williams was in Blackwell's corner on Saturday, and shares a trainer with Nick. Maybe that also played a part in this cancellation.

BN's domestic output has been shite this year though.

He's ranked 8th by BoxRec, he did well against Macklin recently and he's the Midlands Area champion.

How can they let Carslaw fight for the title and not Welborne?

Expe, it's called putting on a show not a single fight. This isn't some small hall outfit, if they can't build a domestic show capable of withstanding a fighter pulling out, it's a joke. They could easily get a late sub, not with the championship still on the line but to keep the main event together so the show can go on. There are boxers training like xxxx and not getting a fight, therefore they're not getting paid either.

When did matchroom last completely cancel a show ?

I'm guessing his had 2 shots ( gavin and smith) and they want a win against a another ranked fighter. Heard he was gunna fight mansouri for English b4 nav got the Williams fight. Welborn beat Aston and a good performance against Macklin (some felt he won) at short notice Imo was a good replacement. The board don't have a ranking system so guessing the fact his ranked 8th on here means nothing.

George Jupp was chief support and he pulled out to go and fight for the WBO interim in Mexico.

Fetch a knockover job in to keep the show going and everyone will call it a shit fight, no win situation, better off putting it back, especially with what happened to Blackwell at the weekend with them being stablemates.

Off the top of my head Matchroom have cancelled Abril-Crolla last year and Burnett in Belfast got cancelled 2 weeks ago. Same period of time Warren's cancelled Ovill-Askin in Widnes and Dublin in February.

Expe, it sucks any way you look at it. No wonder they struggle to sell tickets for the bigger shows, you just can't trust them to deliver. They are a pay TV channel calling themselves 'the home of boxing' and when they put together a good run of shows they can't shut up about it, but strangely when shows get cancelled fans find out when the show gets pulled from the schedule. I guess they are so immune to cancelling shows what difference does another one make ? They run four studio based shows a week, have several social media platforms, and the boss spouts off on his website several times a week yet I still haven't heard anyone tell us paying subscribers why last week's York hall show still went ahead but was not shown live, despite it being on the schedule for weeks, and being advertised on the channel repeatedly. They should be more forthright with the subscribers when shows are cancelled, we're not all apologists for fwank

Just noticed this missing from the schedule, I never even knew Mansouri pulled out,on the 1 hand I'm not fussed as Sky have a show on but at same time I'm gutted as yet again I have to wait to see Williams who's always having fights pulled

if they put on a better show then it could have still went ahead but to put such a poor card together and have the only half decent fight fall through meant the only option was to cancel the show! its not as if they don't have any other fighters that need fights, could have had Maccarinelli, Smith, Pettitt, Leather, Patterson, Cox?

The domestic shows have become non-existent.

The channel has a lot of fringe British level fighters. Hopefully if they progress they'd have a lot of British/European/World titles.

It would be interesting to see the split of British champions and who they are promoted by. If I get chance I will work it out on this thread.

Even split with them Booth.

Anyone else think the sport would improve with another big domestic promoter on the seen?

Possibly. Would no doubt end up on another channel and that would mean more money for watching boxing though unless they managed to get a deal with a freeview channel.
